Just a good word about insurance for a change.

Our multi car policy is up for renewal next month just had the reminder.

Not only have they not penalised me for my recent ban but they have knocked 300 quid off when i phoned them to ask if that was the best price they could manage :)

Nice result mate, We have multicar too, to their credit it hasn't gone up by more than a few £ for the last 3 years, the only downer was them increasing my premium by a small amount when I went from a 1.8T to a 1.9tdi, which was bizarre.

Your trade policy should cover you, your spouse, children on your private cars also, well any decent one should.

For a start the maximum per vehicle on our trade policy is 40k, so that counts out both my car and my wifes.

Also a trade policy is very basic, and lastly i dont ever intend to claim on it if i can help it and with my wifes driving that would be a problem.

We went through Swinton for the trade policy and they advised keeping private cars private.

Me and my mum have just started a multi-car policy after getting a really good quote from them, no one could even come close to them. I hope their after-care team are as helpful as their sales team!

Would also have to be some trade policy to allow the type of vehcies you'd be driving privately...i assume yours has an engine capacity limit on it?

Not really. I had a minor bump in June. To cut a long story short I need a new door. Wasn't my fault.

After going back and forth for ages, I find out in September that the third party accepted liability on 12th July.

And hey, guess what. My car still isn't fixed.

Im not 100% sure as me son sorted it out but i believe its just up to the value of, regardless of engine but i could be wrong. The documents havent arrived yet either.

No experience with swinton but A-Plan's prices were massively different if you capped the engine capacity, i guess in an attempt to rule out using it for anything too "good". Be interested to hear what the limit is (if any) when you get the paperwork through. :)

Would work for me as i stick to small low capacity stuff anyway...

Maybe a stupid question but does the renewal dates for mutil-cars have to be on the same date? Or do you add 1 and then get a discount for adding the 2nd?

My cars insurance runs out in Feb and my wifes cars runs out in May which has always put me off going with Admiral.

That's reassuring. I guess the old saying is true, you get what you pay for!!

Not sure exactly what you are saying but this is what we do, if i buy another car during the term of insurance i just phone them and add it to the policy, they tell me how much then take it from the card of mine they have.

A few days later the documents are through amended.

Clever block, you've answered the question without even realising it :) So you started a policy with a single car and then added cars as and when :)

I'm confused as to why you went through your own insurer for a non fault accident? This is always a bad idea as it results in exactly this sort of scenario.

Though I was always under the impression that Admiral simply passed all the non-fault stuff onto an accident management firm anyway.

You add the second when it's due, then pay the difference up to the renewal date.

Then - the full policy will be due for both cars on the same day - which can mean a massive lump coming out once a year, rather than it being staggered throughout the year by insuring both separately.

We have multi-car with Admiral for the BMW and the two Minis.

When you add another car on to the policy you get a quote for the revised premium (including the impact of any discounts) up to the end of the term of the main policy. From that date on the dates will all be the same.

It ended up in a whole cluster****. It initially went through Albany Assistance who lost all the details of the case and didn't knbow their arse from their elbow. I called Admiral to complain that the people they recommended screwed up. Admiral offered to take over again and waived the need for me to pay the excess or temporarily lose my NCB which I thought was nice of them. That was in September. It would appear that Admiral are now having trouble sourcing the documentation that Albany Assistance may have lost. So, they're writing to the third party again for everything and apparently that takes 2 months.
