I have just popped onto the site today, and noticed these new cards in the ATI range. How do these compare to a 5850? Or is it too early to say?

ATI 6850 and 6870

That's a big thread with reviews links already. Roughly speaking, 6850 is on par with GTX460 1GB, whereas 6870 is on par with GTX470 (if talking about out of the box performance, not counting overclock performance).

Yeah, definitely not worth upgrading from a 5850. Wait till next month for the 69xx cards, which are the true successors to the 58xx cards.
Do remember that they were originally meant to be replacements for the 5770 i.e. 6770 but manufacturing issues (as always) means they're at £200 instead of the planned £100 hence they chose to rename it the 6870 so as not to hurt 5770 sales.

I don't know if it's that simple though, I think the whole range was supposed to be on 28nm, so maybe these would have been 6700s if they were built on 28nm. But again, one of these on 28nm could be quite a bit more powerful.
The cards you are waiting for are 6950/6970, they appear next month

This too, just goes to show, this guy's probably some one who perpetuates the "rip off Britain, we get ripped off on everything". I've lost count of the amount of times that I've had to point out the fact that we simply pay the current USD>GBP+VAT.
Ignorants agree to pay more, call it a rip off.

I think he was claiming it ironic that you spelt ignorance wrong. What he actually meant is that it's hypocritical to call some one ignorant whilst being unable to spell ignorance. The funny thing about it is that it's not actually ironic...

If you wanted to conjugate a noun for a group it would be ignoramuses.
