BBC forced to apologize after "outrageous" Clarkson joke

.... and OFCOM said:
Quote:
Ofcom ruled that "the comments made by Jeremy Clarkson in this instance were capable of causing offence."
It went on: "While obviously intended as a joke and not aimed directly at an individual with learning difficulties, the comment could easily be understood as ridiculing people in society with a particular physical disability or learning difficulty."

As one Australian comic said
'Yes, you're offended, get over it and move on.'

Not a big fan of Clarkson, but it would seem that one is not allowed to level anything offensive towards anyone anymore. If the car did indeed look like it was smiling, in a wide mouthed manner, reminscient of someone with special needs, then surely he is making a descriptive analogy? Rather than causing offence.

Similar to telling someone they are behaving like a monkey when they are mucking around, which is different from calling the same person a monkey for doing the same actions.

Most comedy is based on being somewhat offensive towards a person, or a thing, or a region, or a type of behaviour. I fail to see how this is different.

There are probably people who hate Top Gear, yet watch every single episode so they can nit-pick everything Clarkson says and write to the BBC to complain.

These people probably don't have jobs, or anything better to do.

Nothing wrong with their reporting of the story. Maybe you should take off your blinkers as it might help your perception.

are you suggestion dailymail aren't putting their opinion on the subject? if not then what's your point as it has gone straight over my head, if you are then maybe you should take off your blinkers as it might help your perception.

Moaning about Clarkson is like moaning about South Park jokes...It's not like they haven't picked on absolutely everything

Mr Clarkson is obviously much too subtle! He should have just said 'this car looks like this: Muuurrrrhhhhh' and pulled a 'spastic' face. Then pulled his arms into his jumper and pretended to be a 'flid' while saying 'I can't reach the steering wheel muuurrrrhhh'. But people will complain about anything these days.

I'm sure both people who complained will be happy... Why didn't the government kill ofcom properly during the quango bonfire.

Remember kids, each person who complains means 1bn people are offended...

Wait, the Autistic Society are outraged that Clarkson used the word 'simpleton' in context of a car? Are they saying Autistics are simpletons, and hence it's worthy of offence?... :p

Or perhaps those who are complaining have children with Special Needs, and find the joke incredibly distasteful?

perhaps on the streets it means something different but checking online says it means "A person who is felt to be deficient in judgment, good sense, or intelligence; a fool." i don't know why anyone with special needs is offended.

Should we all complain that we are offended that this joke is removed as it implies we are simpletons and cannot cope with the joke?

PC in reverse!
