Brit cop punch man 5 times in the face.

I honestly no longer care, we're far too soft on criminals and far too harsh on the Police in this country. Good on them, next time and lets face it there will be a next time perhaps he won't resist arrest.

so the cop who threw the 50+ year old woman across the cell cutting her face/head open because she was being a bit mouthy.

Good on him or ?

People who have been arrested:

Mahatma Gandhi
Albert Einstein
Bill Gates
Alan Turing
John Lennon
Carl Sagan

Sweeping statement ftl!

Unless something amazing happened before that video, there seemed to be little need there to punch the man, while he was on the floor, incapacitated and under control, after being tasered, five times in the head.

You wouldn't say that if you were in a group someone commited an offense and they wrongly tried to arrest you. You try to protest they have the wrong man and they punch you in the head a few times.

Not everyone that gets arrested has done something wrong.

The cop was being a prat, end of. Two cops can hold a guy down and wait for backup if need be. The guy was being held down good enough.

At no point should a police officer ever be punching someone in the head. Jesus Christ what's wrong with you people?

They have many ways of restraining someone during an arrest and of course get training how to do that while keeping themselves safe, but at no point should they be punching people in the head, there's no justification for it in any circumstances no matter what you'd like to think.

They have tasers, mace etc, many ways to incapacitate someone that won't cause permanent damage. You can literally and factually kill someone with a single bare knuckled punch to the head, it's incredibly dangerous.

He was just helping the guy get over the after effects of the tasering. A good punch in the face, or four, is great for that, so I hear.

Maybe the guy they were arresting was resisting arrest, and of course we are too soft on criminals, but police officers must always be held accountable for their actions. That copper's no better than the thugs they should be dealing with.

Exactly the threat was over. What was the guy going to do from there?
I hope the policeman loses his job but he won't, just like the others that get caught using excessive force. You would have to be a complete thick **** to lay into someone like that these days with everyone having a mobile camera.

Multiple punches when someones head is against the concrete.

He was resisting arrest. Whether he should have been punched or not is open to debate, but he was definitely resisting.

this tbh...

perhaps was slightly excessive but the 'victim' has himself to blame as much as the police - when you're on the floor with too cops trying to arrest you, after having been tazered it is probably a good time to stop struggling and face the reality that you're not going to escape from the situation any time soon.

He was still struggling/trying to get away and they are generally allowed quite a lot of leeway in terms of what is considered reasonable force. As brutal as it might have looks I don't think it is going to be a clear cut case of police brutality. The officer perhaps could have tried other means but we weren't there, don't know how long they've been trying to get cuffs on him, don't know the background/events beforehand. Had they been trying for a while to get him to stop struggling etc...

Either way I'm not going to lose any sleep over it - if you're under arrest then you go to the police station and perhaps later court and argue your case there - you don't start acting like a mis-behaving child, throw a tantrum and try to struggle/run away. Whether it was allowed or not I'm quite glad that muppet did get a punch.

I don't think it's a policeman, I think It's Joey Barton and 'Stevie' G on a night out in fancy dress.

Bit mouthy in a cell, tough luck to be honest. Give her a clean hanky to wipe her face with.

she wasn't in the cell at the time.

but quite worrying you think sending an old lady to hospital is fine for a police officer to do....

Yeah and the proper way of dealing with it is to not resist arrest/try to run away but go to the police station, ask for a solicitor argue your case.

If you had a really dodgy cop then file a complaint and sue them.

Throwing a tantrum and trying to get away when they've got you on the ground is beyond retarded.

Ok for all you people who say GOOD JOB!!!

If someone was attacking another person and you held them to the floor while the police come running. AND then you decided to hit them 5 times. you WOULD get charged with assault.

If a copper hits a man when he is down and there are 2 of them then he must loose his job and get charged.

Weather he was resisting arrest or whatever the LAW is LAW. We live in a world of rules THEY DONT CHANGE FOR THE POLICE.

WEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRR

VIJJA RECORDED THAT

That's my overwhelming impression coming from that video - the annoying bloke shouting :p

They shouldn't under any circumstances whatsoever ? What if the suspect had a weapon ? Had a hold of you and was trying to bite you ? I accept that wasn't the case here but cops can punch someone in the face as can anyone but the circumstances must warrant it and you have to be able to justify it.

They have many ways of restraining someone during an arrest and of course get training how to do that while keeping themselves safe, but at no point should they be punching people in the head, there's no justification for it in any circumstances no matter what you'd like to think.

Most violent arrests end up on the floor and cops are given very little training for when this happens. Also, most cops do not carry taser and CS or pepper sprays are not always effective in pacifying someone.

They do actually - they have much greater powers of arrest than we do.

If you're performing a citizens arrest you're simply trying to hold someone there while the police arrive - the police officers are actually trying to handcuff the suspect and put him into a van. You don't have the power to handcuff someone and so the fact someone is struggling when you perform a citizens arrest wouldn't justify the same use of force as a police officer who is trying to charge a suspect and bring him in for questioning.
