Best Value Graphics Card - GTX460?

TBH I would take the MSI or Gigabyte 460's with custom coolers over a 6850 at the same price any day. Performance difference is negligible.

When the 69xxs come out, it'll be a really tough choice between a single high end card at ~300, or a pair of the cheaper gtx460/6850/6870 cards.

The 69xx cards look really exciting.

Hows the new 68xx cards at xfire? I was under the impression from the reviews that they were looking good. Any improvements in driver stability?

From what I've read, their xfire ability was nothing short of phenomenal. The 6xxx serious should have the best scaling seen yet, probably beating SLI now.

Is this the general consensus or is it a bit too soon to say for certain?
Ignore Sky. Most people believe he's a dup account made by an existing member for trolling. Almost every single post by him is pro AMD/ATI and **** on Nvidia :p

So far I only see people that pro AMD/ATI 'claim' the 6850 is faster than the GTX460 1GB, whereas the benchmarks only suggested it is only identical to the GTX460 1GB on most parts in terms of speed and frame rates in games. While I disagree with their claim of 6850 being "faster", I do agree that the 6850 has the benefit of lower power consumption, and lower price at under £135 (at least it was before the price rise). Now that its prices has rised to £150, same as GTX460 1GB that has decent customer coolers (Gigabyte, MSI Cyclone) which comes with a free copy of HAWX 2, and considering more games prefer Nvidia's card than AMD/ATI...I just don't see the reason for getting the 6850 over the GTX460 1GB, unless someone absolutely need the lower power consumption, or want to try the experimental Morphological Anti-aliasing.

Thank you everyone for the numerous responses and advice, I was amazed to come back 10mins after posting to see so many replies, seems like this is a great community.

Ended up missing out on the cheap MSI Cyclone so got the HAWK instead. Looking forward to the bits arriving today so I can get it built.

Thanks again. ;)

Hi, BlawFord. Personally, I think that the MSI GTX 460 is a very good overclockable card, if you are considering to overclock the GPU. I will recommend getting a 1GB Pre-Overclocked card, which will already be a at present overclocked setting by MSI. You can overclock this card even further if you wish to get the best performance out of it. There are very stable settings for that card, since it has a very decent airflow mechanics.

NJoyo

Got my Gigabyte GTX460 yesterday. It flies. The performance gain in World of Tanks over my old 8800GT is fantastic. I can play it on full settings without dropping below 20 FPS even when particles are flying and tanks are exploding and grass is burning. I'm very impressed.

I got a Gigabyte 460 2 days ago as well, I'm impressed most over how quiet it is, it's virtually silent compared to my 8800GTS 512mb.

If you feel you need a little more oomph to games and assuming you haven't already, go download MSI Afterburner. You can easily reach 800 core, 1600 shader and 2000 memory without any voltage change.

Well tried my 470 on air before l water cooled it at 800/1600/1800, set my own profile max was 45% fan speed. It peaked at 68'c and the fan was just about silent, can't be that bad.
