As per title.

My beloved K800i has bit the bullet, when someone tries to ring me it sometimes diverts to answer phone as if my phone is switched off. Had it for over 3 years and it's done me proud, though I feel it's time to update now.

What i'm after:

- Excellent camera & flash, preferably 8+ megapixles though i'm not sure my budget will allow that. I take a lot of photos so I need them to be clear and sharp. video camera would be a plus.

- Should be on the Orange Network. I've read that using a different SIM card in a unlocked phone can lock some of the functions out and not make it function properly.

A tall order I know but i've been looking into these two phones and they seem about right for me, though i've not kept up with phone tech for a while so don't know which one is better.

Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition

Sony Ericsson C905

Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If taking photos and videos are so important to you, then buy a camera. The sensors in phones are so small that any pictures you take will be worse than even a cheap camera.

also, +1 for the San Francisco

The Sanfran doesn't take good pictures so I can't see why people are suggesting it?

I would probably reccomend scouring the bay for some old N series phones. Last time I looked a Nokia N95 could be had for about £120, slightly over budget but has a very solid camera and won't feel completely ancient. Failing that maybe just buy the same model you had before? :p

Indeed, I think people just read the title and not the thread, as the San Francisco is the obvious choice otherwise.

Out of the two you linked, the C905 is far far better as a media device, its camera is actually very good, the Tocco has a decent camera too but its not up to the Cybershot standard.

Review of it here - http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_c905-review-295.php

Give that a read and check it will do what you want. Dont expect the world for £100 :p

Perhaps because it is such a decent phone for the price. Granted the camera on it is a complete failure for taking pictures, and so does not suit the OP, but it is still a great phone.

Seriously though.. If you can push the budget to get a digi camera and the san-fran (can be had for £80) happy times.

Else, C905 is my brothers phone. It's nothing special. But it works. Camera is pretty good, but once again, *nothing* compared to a second hand £30-50 camera. Stick sony erikson if you want a new phone (wth a good camera) go nokia if you're going second hand. N95 is a solid phone.

I never said it wasn't a great phone pal. It just doesn't do what the OP needs it to do otherwise it is a great suggestion.

Don't forget 8mp+ camera phones usually have the same sensor size as 5mp ones, so they end up being worse in low light/generally noisier. Only the Nokia N8 can claim to have a proper camera replacement.

How about the newish £99 Sony Ericsson Elm? 5mp + autofocus, just an LED flash though...

(Personally I'd get the Orange SF and a decent p&s. ;))

The reason i don't want to buy a proper camera, even though I already have one is when I go out and about. I don't want to have to lug a phone and a camera, so I want the best of both world. thanks to the 2-3 people who actually bothered to read the body of text instead of just the topic title.

Will have a look at the N95, just had a quick comparison between the C905 and the Tocco. I'm assuming the C905 will have superior picture quality as the K800i, being only 3MP has really clear and sharp images. Though is has that, the Tocco has a decent video camera (720 x 480) and a bigger screen. Would be nice if I could see some comparison pictures between the 3 phones to judge picture quality.

I don't expect the world for a £100, I want the best phone in my budget margin. :)

Forget the older phones like the n95, newer ones have better IQ/software etc, eg.

i have a nokia n79

a great phone, good camera, would suggest to give this a thought.

i have garmin installed, and you will be able to install other applications.

there are other phones like the nokia 6600i (nice slide phone) also has a 5 meg camera probably could get a decent condition one for around £60

C905 is the worst SE phone I've ever owned, the camera is actually very good but that's it, the phone is crap. It'll break, and the slider is made of a type of cheese. Google C905 problems, so many things on the phone fail very often.

See if you can pick up a used N82 within your price range (I have no idea what they go for though). It's basically a candybar style N95 but with a xenon flash. I'd say it's still one of the best cameraphones around, obviously not comparable to the N8, but there's not much else that will beat it, only a few phones.

Find all the phones in your budget and hit up flikr I guess.

This is in 99% of cases false, I wouldn't constrain yourself to this requirement. Unlocked phones will nearly always be fine.
