Comfortable Chair

whatever you do, don't buy a cheap & nasty Viking chair, as it will become uncomfortable quickly and you'll end up having to keep buying replacements. I advise you invest in something high quality with a price tag on it. Personally I bought an aeron chair from eBay for £350, I've had it for like 4 years now... Best home investment i ever made :)

Sitting on the Markus atm, it's totally fine for long periods. The Markus has adjustable lumbar support too, so if you have a bad back that may help.

How do you adjust the lumbar support on the markus?

Does yours make a clicking type sound when you lean back a little too much? Not sure if it's the tilt mechanism making the sound or whether it needs rebuilding.

It's the big knob on the underside of the chair, though reading around some people dispute this. I'm sure it changes the height of the lumbar...
It does not, sounds like your tilt mechanism is jumping perhaps? If I lean back too far, when the tilt thing is locked it doesn't move at all (apart from a few degrees until the thing hits the cog thing).

Does it make the noise when it hits the cog thing? I'm 99% sure it's the mechanism because if I have the seat fully back and not locked in, when I try to push it back it there is no noise. Pretty poor design really imo.

Tbh I'm not that impressed by the chair, the leather on the actual seat isn't 100% tight fitting so it looks a bit odd after it has been sat on. It'll do for now though and apart from those 2 issues it's fine, it's pretty comfy and the neck support is much needed!

I'm pretty sure the chairs have a 10 year guarantee too?

Staples do some good chairs.. recently got 2 different types and both are great. Though i was very tempted by that Markus too :D Only regret is not getting "Tilt Lock" mechanism.

Thanks guys for feedback I will do some Searching as see what I can find the Markus chair still on top list atm, the aeron chairs look perfect but out of my budget range atm buying new as buying new pc.

I have been hunting for a chair in this price range for ages! I had a miller aeron at work and it was amazing. Sadly not possible to afford one during my year doing an MSc so I went with the Ikea Markus chair and I tell you now sir, I have no regrets.

It is not in the same class as the aeron for extreme adjustability, but it is amazing bang for buck and extremely comfortable after a week of sitting in it.

I need new Desk Chair that is comfortable as I have bad back been looking at this: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20103101 Wondering if anyone has one and there view on it? can't test it as no ikea near where i live :(

Thanks

I bought one a few months back. I particularly like the genuinely high back. You can lean full back and have your head cushioned if you're up to, in my estimate, about 6'2" tall.

Two drawbacks in my use of it:

i) The armrests are not well padded at the back. If you lean full back with your elbows on the rear of the armrests, it's a bit uncomfortable after a while.

ii) The headrest is almost flat, so it doesn't give horizontal support to your head if you sleep in the chair. Your head will roll to one side during sleep, which isn't at all comfy. Just stick a U-shaped cushion behind your neck and that problem's sorted.

I'm not joking about the sleeping. I've slept in the chair several times. It's comfortable enough to sleep in.

You can undoubtably get better chairs, but I doubt if you can get better chairs for the same price.

Given that you've got a bad back, I think you should be very wary about buying any chair without sitting in it first. Markus is great for me, but maybe it wouldn't suit your back.
