Hi all

Hi all, ive been looking at new tyres on and off for the past few weeks, and I am going round in circles (boom boom tsss, I'm here all week!)

I need 4 tyres, the car is a volvo 2.4 V70 AWD turbo, about 200bhp I belive.

Im after something that will last but also has good grip in all conditions, so an all rounder really, a soft sporty tyre is not really what im after, but I do like to drive hard so do need something capable...
Ive had things like Toyo 1 and goodyear F1 on hatchbacks in the past but they are just to soft...

As a benchmark, black circles have Pirelli P6000 in my size 205/55 R16 V (91)
Fitted for £65.82 a corner.

Im not a massive fan of these tyres, but I cant really afford much more, possibly up to £70 per corner, maybe a little bit more if I can wangle a discount for buying 4 tyres at once...

The Hankook ventus prime and Yokohama c.drive2 have caught my eye,

thanks for any opinions

I'm running Pirello P7 Cinturatos on my S90 and they're pretty good.
Not that expensive either, at £79 a corner fitted on blackcircles

ContiPremiumContact 2s are the same price.

For the sake of £10 a corner, it's worth getting something like these.

Yeh I looked at the conti PC2 also..

Do you know what the differnce is between the Cinturato and the normal P7 is/ as the normal P7 is more expensive (both V rated)?

That cinturanto gets good reviews for it's blend of performance and feel whilst offering 'Eco' stuff like life and low rolling resistance. I think it's the auto bild 2010 review?

Thanks, the P7/cinturanto might well be an option, I was looking at rainsports as they get great reviews, but they dont seem to show up in any searches in my size...

Rainsport 2 205/55ZR16
I've got some fitted on my 900 (225/45ZR17's) and so far they have never broken traction and that is on a 225hp FWD car. I've run them at castle combe once aswell and they were fantastic. I've still got 8mm of tread after 3500 miles and they started with 9mm. If they continue to wear at this rate i should get at least 20,000 miles out of them.

I had P6000's fitted on my old alloys and they were merely OK in the dry and terrible in the wet. (lots of wheelspin, and that was with the car running limited boost giving roughly 150hp)

Ooh I'm tempted by the rain sport, if I can find an online fitting included, I'm after a competent tyre that's good in bad conditions, long lasting, I'm still not sure though, the other suggestions are with a look, has anyone had rain sport and the p7 to compare? Or any if the tyres mentioned in the thread?

Have a look on Tyretraders. It was cheaper to have them delivered, and fit them for £10 a corner, rather than have someone from Blackcircles or whatever fit them for me.

You could look into the Vredestein Ultrac Cento - just fitted a set to my A4 but too early to tell if they're any good. Previously had Sportrac3s on, which were good all round but excellent in the wet, so I'm hoping for similar things from the Cento.

Got some pirelli p6000 myself, and if you drive when its slightly damp and value your life, Stay away ;) (And i don't drive something with that much go either, unless you class a 1.4 fiesta fast :P)

Uniroyal Rainsport 2's Seem a very highly praised tyre, getting good reviews from everywhere. Were my first choice but couldn't get them fitted, so had to settle with some Maxxis tyres which actually seem pretty damn good for the price.

Yeh I've had p6000 on a sporty hatch previously, and the volvo currently has them (were fitted when I bought it) they are ok at best I would say. Pretty much fine of conditions are perfections But they tramline and I have no confidence in them when the road is damp/a bit greasy. Strictly a lower midrange tyre I would say.

I will look into buying them and paying separate for fitting. But a also need to get the tracking/alignment done at the same time, so not sure which way will work out best in terms of logistics, might try some local tyre places and see what they quote...

This is the first awd car I've had, is getting the wheels tracked and aligned the same deal as any other car, or is there more to it?

Cheers for the comments so far

p6000's are godawful, in the dry and the wet I can spin the wheels up in 3rd in the wet

You can spin in 3rd in the dry??? what do you drive?
Dont get me wrong, I dont rate the P6000 at all really, but that would take some serious effort... and clutch abuse :D

EDIT: just re-read, in the wet.. I was going to say!

Very tempted to go for the rain sports now... the tread pattern looks very sporty though, are they still a faily long life compound?

haha I was going to say, it says wet right after 3rd :p

If you're looking for maximum wear, Buy Michelin. If you want an awesome all round tyre that doesn't wear what most people would call quickly, grab a pair on uniroyals :)
