I think I have fried my motherboard

well i have been working on my computer today and whilst messing around hooking up some fans I think I have borked the mobo. it all works expect the onboard network doesnt seem to function anymore. there is a light on the port but doesnt flash like when its sending or recieving. also the information relating to the network as completely disapeared from the bios.

since this i have flashed it to its latest update but with no joy. hardware in question is abit ip35

I take it you wernt connecting them with the power on?

not as i remember but the side ones may of been a loose connection. You think this is what could be the cause of it>?

Just get a gigabit PCI NIC, it will work just as well as the onboard.

I tried that with a very old pci card and they dont seem to work? I think the messed up onboard is interfearing. its weird

What OS and have you tried reinstalling drivers?

Windows 7. Reinstalled several times. The damaged lan port appears to be affecting pci network cards from being installed too.

Does this sound normal?

I do not know enough to specifically say yes or no to that question but I would have said no without querying it too deeply.

Have you tried the PCI card with the onboard LAN disabled in the bios?

Is the router or network restricted to the MAC address of the onboard LAN?

When I built my old IP35 I remember the onboard being disabled as standard, areyou sure its actually enabled in the BIOS at the moment? IF you have updated the BIOS it may have set that back to disabled.
