Well i dont know about anyone else but im ready for a new gen of consoles now. We have had xbox 360 since 2005.

This last year i have found myself playing more PC games due to better graphics. Although these games have mostly been Console ports they are still starting to pull away abit from the console versions.

Mafia 2 is an example of this,

With move and kinect it looks they want to expand the life of the platform for at least 2 years, or at least until the hardware they want to make for PS4 and xbox 720 becomes cheaper to produce.

Personally I see the 360/PS3 lasting another 3-4 years as a lot of people won't want to migrate to the newer consoles at release prices. If they're actually released in my estimated time frame, if not then to hell with my theory.:p

I feel as if everything has gotten to a stalemate graphically, and has been that way for a while. I'd love for a new gen of consoles right now but don't think I'll see it for a little while yet :(

A week next Tuesday,

As of then the current gen consoles will be obsolete and worthless. With this in mind I do not mind in desposing of any of these 'worthless' current gen consoles so please feel free to email your details and I will be happy to take them off your hands.

Don't forget email in trust ;)

Think people may be taking the topic title a little bit too literal.

Of course i don't expect anyone to actually tell me i just wanted to create discussion.

I've been bored of this gen for a while aswell, 360 been out 5 years now for gods sake. Personally, I'd love the next gen to be announced 2011 for release 2012. Can't see it happening, kinect is going to extend the platform at least that long and there seems not much demand for new stuff beyond that.

Shame :(.

Still pretty happy with the current gen, plenty of quality game-play even if the hardware is a bit dated, feel like the ps3 is just getting its stride really and am enthusiastic about Move.

Considering the PS3 is still £250 and take GT5 for example its not even out yet and how much money has been spent on making it, just to bring out a newer console cant see Sony bringing one out any time soon, MS could announce one next year and release it in 2012, maybe? 7 years is long enough for the 360

Given the state of the global economy, it'll be a while... It's just not viable to pour the money into manufacturing and selling one when the market can't bear it.

Nintendo are the first to really go for it with the 3DS... that should be an interesting test.

I think christmas 2012 or later. The current gap between PC graphics and console graphics isn't enough to warrant a generation jump. It also comes down to cost, they aren't going to release a £600 console. The current consoles are still too good to replace. The longer it takes, the bigger jump it will be.

Dunno, it just seems as if we haven't had half the games that the PS2 had yet. Perhaps another 3 years at least.

Bah you beat me to my point. No one will release a new, ~£300 piece of kit in the middle of a recession, whether we're technically still in it or not.

With the release of Move and Kinetic, I think this generation's legs will take it at least two or three more years before an announcement of a next gen, so maybe 2013-14 for a new release?

Only real gaming fans buy them on launch anyway, and I wouldn't think twice about dropping £300 on the 360's successor. 'Casual' gamers tend to wait 12-18 months anyway, when its closer to £200.

IMO it wouldn't make a huge difference, people were generally late to this generation aswell and I think that has made the lifespan a bit longer. The amount of people that bought in the first time when the slim models came out must be pretty high, and they have a lot of catching up to do which they seem quite happy to do!
