How does the 6870 compare to the GTX 480?

Would only take you 1 afternoon of work to build it and you'll be sooo much more satisfied when its done :) also your wife would appreciate the savings!!

I think you are right about buying top-end guys. The Dreadnought should probably be left for now - just in case the prices plummet and/or the 69xx owns it :)

I'll pose a different question then.....how does the 6870 bear up to the 460/470 mid-range models? I may not go top-end...my head's all over the place atm. Who would've thought buying a computer could be so hard!!

Would the Aurora breeze through COD BO? How would it far in Crysis?

Is the top-end model worth £300+ more for gaming?

Sorry folks but atm building my own is not for me. In the future though - oh yes! :)

I doubt anyone who buys the Aurora would be dissapointed in any way tbh, by all reviews and reports the 6870 is a corker of a lil card which sits above the 460 and slightly below the 470 in performance. The real amazing thing so far is there crossfire performance which is apparently stunning, that said tho i agree with most of the folks here in that if your willing to spend this kind of money on your system you should wait till November. The 69xx are gonna be AMDs real hard hitting high performance cards and i have a feeling they will blow all competition out of the water (until Nvidea respond ofc).

You could buy the rest now, have a month to build it and just slot in a pair of nice 6970s when they come out :P

Depends how seriously you take your gaming, a £200 GPU will pretty much run any game with decent settings at 1920x1080 and i doubt you would find anything to complain about. The more expensive cards are for folks who need more than that tho, crazy high resolutions, multiple screens ect and for Crisis ultra high settings 16 AAA :P

I won't be building mate - not this time anyways. Got FAR too much on :)

Atm it's a toss between the Aurora and the Dreadnought. Come November, I'm sure that OC will throw a dedicated 69xx machine into the mix (and possibly reduce the prices of the aforementioned). It's merely a question of "can I wait that long" and watch everyone else level up on COD: BO before me! :)

I will be purchasing a 24" monitor - the Samsung B2430H, but won't be multi-screening. I would like a fast framerate and full detail though.,
