Interference on O2?

Hi guys,

Just moved over from Vodafone to GiffGaff today. Everything is fine, however I've noticed that with my HTC Desire on my desk I get near constant interference through my speakers, no matter where I put the phone.

It's very annoying and basically now means I cannot have my phone on the desk.

Whilst I appreciate mobile phones interfere with things I never had this with Vodafone and both Vodafone and O2 (Who GiffGaff run on) use the same GSM900 frequency...

Any ideas?

Mine does this sometime, also on o2, but normally fine when I disable the 3G.

What else have you got on your desk? Its possible that something on your desk is causing the interference. This may sound odd but when the Dell PSU in my desktop at work started to fail I started to get interference on my phone.

It might be worth switching off other electrical items nearby to see if it helps identify the cause.

Nothing else on my desk.

It's just started today, my first day on o2.

It's so annoying I'm considering porting somewhere else as a phone which cannot sit on my desk is a waste of time.

Perhaps poorer signal so is turing up the wattage or something.

Any change in signal?

I'm on giffgaff too and definitely noticed more interference through speakers, although it doesn't occur that often.

It's sorta possible i think at a technical level. It would probably only be noticeable on phones with constant 2G data connections. 3G doesn't interfere in the same way.

Well it's clear he wasn't aware. I suspect the basic fundamentals of RF would be lost on him.
