2000bhp lambo. falling off at c.200mph

Came out with heavy bruising but no broken bones etc.. testiment to how safe cars are nowerdays!

He did not crash at 200+ MPH. There was at most 25 seconds of acceleration from rest, and even with mega power it may have touched 200. The guy brakes and deploys a parachute before he then hits the grass and THEN crashes. Unless he sped up when all this happened I suspect the actual crash was at half that speed.

I'd probably agree, he would have scrubbed off a fair amount of speed with that chute! Big crash still :p

Eritrea, you added extra to my quote :p, he prob did hit the speed but as I said scrubbed it off before the car went airborne.

from chatting to top fuel guys at pod that we sponsored they hated using parachutes but your not really given any choice.

when the parachute is deployed the retardation in accelaration is the same as jumping on the brakes.

but also due to the design of the parachute it also creates lift, to the point of actually lifting the rear wheels off the ground.

top fuel guys(300mph) say you roughly lift the rear wheels off the floor for around 1.5-2secs before they apply there full weight back onto the tarmac, since they run skinnies on the front one driver comment it was like driving the worlds fastest wheelbarrow.

i have a feeling a similar situation happened here, that the rear went light hence he lost control.

Loads of people have asked me to fit a parachute to my car when i do 200mph but id prefer to rely on my brakes as i wont be able to apply that but force to light the back wheels which at 200mph i dont want to be correcting any problems

Looking at that second vid it looks like it loves to break traction when he lifts off and the chute isn't used. Looks like as soon as the chute was used the issue was exaggerated. Speed arguments aside, that's still a big off. Brings back memories of Darryns cart-wheeling, 'cept the Lambo guy doesn't have a Canon 1D + lens to smack him in the noggin :D

It said he hit 240mph though.

nah he probably wasn't doing 200+mph when he went off but he was clearly doing the best part of it as the debris flying off show.

Utterly ridiculous to brake a short wheel base car like that with a parachute. Why not just set all your brake bias to the rear while you're at it?

but in the second link, the car fell off whilst braking and no chute involved at all. just looks unstable

From the guy who recorded it...
I confirmed with Kevin Howeth that the car was in fact traveling at 104mph when it impacted the berm. I assumed that since the car probably reached a vMax of 240mph or so (he didn't just hit exactly 236 and immediately let off) it was still running around 200mph when it got out of shape and left the track. It's just an estimate.
