is a 5850 faster than a 480

Your not the only one, im restriced (cpu wise) by my motherboard chipset (975X/G), day to day I pretty much run the card at stock but have been known to bump it up to 1ghz plus for a bit of benching, hence why I don't mind posting some numbers. :)

Yes because 1080p is such a massive res compared to 1680x1050 lol, if you wish I can do some fraps runs with some of the games I mentioned at my res, it's nowhere near 60 FPS average in most of them, 480 still overkill?

Just got thinking about this and you might be supprised, 1080p has 309,600 more pixels to render than 1680x1050. Thats quite a lot when were talking a total of 1,764,000 pixels @1680x1050 (about 1/6th more pixels in total).

Random I know but I am pretty bored.

Right guys lets kick this off with a few benchies.

@ VinceB1

Can you run the variable RE5 benchmark as well, cheers. The fixed one is very CPU dependent. I'll get some results up later tonight.

on my old e6600 setup with my 5850 in the fps was nearly half . i slapped an x58 in and core i7 and boom so yea bigtime cpu dependant .

edit ive got msi afterburner what else do i need , is it ati gpu tool

cheers

Just AB will do, you can go to C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner, open MSIAfterburner CFG file with notepad and look for EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 0 change the 0 to 1 and save it, restart AB and you can now bypass any overclock limits.

If it doesn't let you save for some reason, save it to desktop and rename the old file. Once you have done that copy the file back to the directory and its game on.

New res evil and dirt benches added. About to install crysis so should have some benches up later.

So there we have it, the gtx 480 is a fair bit ahead not so much in crysis but hey you get what you pay for. :) For me, I like my racing games and the 5850 does well at decent settings with eyefinity and 2x or no AA.

I could push it up even further (1100 possibly?) to see if I can give the 480 a bit more of a run for its money but the truth be told even though you might get close to the 480, its not the £350 card that the 480 is so you wouldn't expect it to be nipping at its heels.

To balance out the CPU's ?
So there can be no foul play as one cpu is a q6600(Overclocked) and the other is a i7.
