is a 5850 faster than a 480

^10-4

Yeah Vince 5850 is a top card, overclocked it's a beast as shown.

HT is off because it's a gaming PC, no need for HT. At stock because vince is using a q6600 @ 3Ghz so I went stock to try and restore some balance.

exactly that we were trying to get a pretty fair comparison of the 5850@ 1000/1150 vs 480@ stock. Which is what the op was after.

Edit:Also ive turned the desktop off for the night so will update the crysis results with very high ones tomorrow.

I've got a Core i7 920 @ 4Ghz + A HD5850 @ 1000/1200, If you guys are still looking for a more fair test then im more than happy to run some benchmarks. If your all done then thats cool.

Won't be back online until tomorrow after 2PM, got driving test :S

Sounds good I would be interested in what it could do if I got a new cpu.

^^Yeah if you look at what frame this minimum FPS occurs it's at the very start as the camera pans down to the beach, at this point the textures are buffering from the hard drive in to vram, this causes inconsistencies in frame rate on the first loop of the bench with the odd stutter. Just to add I have all my games installed on a 1GB HD and an SSD for OS.

hi
interesting results fellas not bad for a 10 month old card that cost me £198@launch . could this be another 8800gtx . complexity i would like you to do some more benchmarking if poss

thanks again lads

hmmm, I have just been digging around and found results in dirt 2 which are considerably better than those I posted. Why do I get involved in these threads?

I was perfectly happy with performance but now im wondering if its not performing as it should be.

i would but cant get passed 775/1125 msi a/burner wouldnt let me save. ive done it before so i know it hits 1000/1150 but i only did 3dmark 2006 but like someone said very cpu dependant

Ok so Core i7 920 @ stock - HT Off, 3 x 1 GB OCZ 1333mhz 7-7-7-21, HD5850@ 1000/1200

Dirt 2 Ultra settings 1680 x 1050 8xAA Avg = 88.5FPS Min = 66.0FPS

Dirt 2 Ultra settings 1680 x 1050 4xAA Avg = 87.6FPS(?) Min = 68.4FPS

EDIT:1...Resident Evil 5 Max 1680 x 1050

Variable 8xAA = 70.5FPS
Fixed 8xAA = 62.9FPS

Variable 4xAA = 77.9FPS
Fixed 4xAA = 65.5FPS

EDIT 2:

Seems you need the game Crysis, to use the Crysis benchmark and unfortunatily I don't have it. Sorry guys.
