Taxing car without renewal notice

I've not had or lost my car tax renewal notice and it is due on the 1st.

Can I tax my car at the Post Office without the renewal notice if I provide me Insurance/Car Ownership Documents and MOT?

Little concerned as i've moved house in the last few weeks and my insurance has the car registered at the new address, but the car will still be registered to the old house as i've not submitted the change yet.

I'm pretty sure you will need the V5 if you have no renewal notice. Apart from that should be ok.

Did this very thing earlier in the week. V5, insurance covernote and MOT was all I needed. I sent my V5 off immediately afterwards as it was the one thing I forgot to change the address on when I moved.

I thought you needed the renewal notice to do it online but looking at that it may be possible using some detail on the v05?

It's no big deal to nip into the Post Office though.

How long do they take to post the tax disc if you do it online? I always use the post office and mine is due the 1st also. Just don't want to be waiting for a week for the disc to arrive.

You can't do it online if the address on the V5 is wrong (unless you are redirecting post).

I'm going to set up post re-direction this weekend lol... I need to go to the post office for that as well so i'll just tax it there.

The house I've moved from is actually still ours, the car is registered at that address. Could work unless they check the address it's insured at somehow?

If you still own the house then it's fine! The problems only arise if you can't get hold of the post as they post the tax to the address on the V5.

Takes around 2-3 business days from my experience (2 last week done).

This isn't an issue any more. If the car is already taxed, and you do the online renewal before it expires you can run the car legally for five days into the next month whilst the tax is delivered.
