I just finished my 18 month contract with t-mobile cost me about £800 over that period for a phone that i complained about after 2 weeks of purchase but t-mobile and samsung did not care one single bit. I had them laughing at me on the phone at one point. Well i was happy the contract ended, to say the least, will never buy another phone again. But now i got a 1 month rolling contract with another provider and stick the sim in and find out that the phone has a network lock on it. I just think that the network lock is a disgusting idea and i do not know how these mobile phone operators get away with it. Surely after spending £800 on a ridiculous contract i should receive the unlock codes ?

I phone up and asked them for the unlock codes they said i had to pay them for it. I am utterly disgusted and just reinforced my hatred for t-mobile and mobile contracts in general. Lost a(nother) customer for life.

Geez dude just tell us what phone it is..no need to go off on a rant...theres no obligation from networks to give you anything for free including unlock codes. Just something you have to deal with.

Thats why i buy my phones offline ie unlocked and yes they cost more but i dont have to worry about network locks or the likes.

lol, ashamed to say what phone it, so what, who cares.

just search on ebay for an unlock code, you'l be fine, sometimes you can get it unlocked for free, just google;)

Guess the phone? Can't be many 18 month old Samsung models around, my guess... the early tocco? :)

I bought my mum the original LG cookie, one month later it was posted off to mazuma, worst... phone... ever... :p

It is a samsung pixon, which i guess is just as rubbish as a tocco. At least with the tocco i think you might be able to get widgets or apps etc.

With this phone they said that there was going to be apps available and widgets etc, but they did not release anything, complete lie and rip off. the phone is the worst thing i have ever come across, i would prefer my old sony Ericsson k800 than this.

Took it in to a shop he said that it will cost me £10 to get it unlocked. Apparently there is no free unlock for this phone because each phone has a unique code.

Called tmobile they won't give me the unlock codes because i am no longer a customer, typical, they told me to go in to store (which they always say) went to a store they said they don't unlock in store and phone customer service. Typical run around from tmobile. To be honest i think all the mobile companies are extortionate and a complete rip off. Terrible support, over priced contracts.

I am going to see if i can use a work mobile and just never pay for mobile again because imo it is a complete rip off.

Not to sound harsh but did you do any research before you took out the contract? Did you try the phone in a shop? Did you not see that you could buy it on PAYG for £150? Whilst you did get "ripped off" it could have been avoided if you'd have actually researched beforehand.

Anyways, get an unlock code off ebay

I was so ripped off it is not even funny. When i got the phone i was still going out quiet a bit and was making long calls to friends. But that stopped a few months after i got the phone cause a few friends went back to SA. So my social life pretty much ended. so i ended up being stuck with loads of minutes that i never used. Even worse 08 numbers were not included so when i moved house i got a bill for £120 one month. So annoying. Then i realized they were charging me extra for checking my voicemail, think it was like £2 every time or something. So i cancelled that. I changed the contract from one with minutes to one that gave me £200 worth of credit so that i wouldn't get hit with another £120 bill when dialing 08 numbers. But that meant my monthly bill went from £35 to £40. So i was paying £40 a month for this crappy phone that barely works and i tried constantly to reduce the monthly payment or cancel the contract but tmobile would not budge. I complained about the phone they said that the phone is free and they don't support it (one of their excuses, of many) and that i should speak to samsung, samsungs support is pretty non existent, they just say, take it too an approved samsung engineer who can take a look at the problems. But the thing had design defects, it was not fault that needed a repair. But they just played dumb and didn't care. So last time i will ever buy a phone.

I admit i was stupid to get another contract. But at the time the only phones that were out was the G1 and the iphone. I was going to get a g1 but i went with the pixon because i wanted the camera. I tested it in the shop and it seemed ok. But after using it for two weeks i noticed all the annoying problems and design faults. I upgraded the firmware and that fixed some of the problems but not all of them.

Fair enough, just one of those things. To be fair, I was stuck with a Motorola for 12 months, of which 2 it spent at the shop being fixed :(

Oh lord that was the one without wifi wasn't it. Blaming T-mob or samsung for it's defects is a bit pointless as you selected it when you could have had any phone for free - there was no gun to your head. While you may be angry you picked a crap phone, phoning them up and asking them to go back in time and fix problems you have with it does seem a bit funny to me :)

At £35/m that puts you in the top category for paym, you'll be able to name any phone you want for almost/free at least next time, if you get over your fear of your phone.

There was no gun to my head but i picked it based on the specification and the short time i had with the phone. When i found out that the phone did not live up to the specification, i was within my rights to be angry and ask for a replacement.

no next time. :D

Does anyone know where i stand legally with a locked phone, i told my boss about the problem and he said that tmobile should unlock it for free because now i own the phone and legally they have to unlock it. is he right ?

Well then your boss is wrong.

T-mobile have the right to say no to unlocking your phone all day long wether you paid £800 or £2000 for the phone.

If you go and buy a PAYG mobile and pay £500 for the phone, they have no legal obligation to unlock the phone, same principal with contract phones.
