Louder, bigger and more the better.
.... and at a firework display if you live in a town or city.
Louder, bigger and more the better.
I know you're not, you're talking about some random night no-one else cares about or has heard of![]()
You mean the celebration of the Battle of the Boyne that saw William of Orange defeat King James and keep Louis of France from expanding into Europe? Then after William took control of England gave the people and parliament more rights than they'd ever had before?
It's funny. People on the UK mainland will claim the 12th of July is bigoted and sectarian and why do we celebrate it. Well, that's why. Without William, who knows how modern Britain would have turned out.
Sorry, is that the 11th or 12th? You seem to be at odds with a previous poster.
I've never heard of celebrations on that day, nor have any of the people around me.
It might be a big thing for one of our colonies, but not for the motherland![]()

Brian8bit said:It wasn't until William Of Orange came along and got rid of James that the foundations of the modern political system we take for granted today could be laid with the Bill Of Rights, that gave the citizenship and parliament far more rights and control (and less interference from the Monarchy) over their country than any other Monarch before.

i come to see gay fawkes thread and now it has turned to some sort of debate
It's odd that we don't celebrate Guy Fawkes back home. Some guy trying to blow up Parliament? What's not to celebrate?![]()
All he was trying to do was get rid of a Protestant monarch and install a Catholic one. The flipping back and forth between Monarchs is some of the nastiest times in British history for civilians, if you didn't bow to the will of the installed Monarch (namely converting to their chosen religion) you were either imprisoned, or butchered. It wasn't until William Of Orange came along and got rid of James that the foundations of the modern political system we take for granted today could be laid with the Bill Of Rights, that gave the citizenship and parliament far more rights and control (and less interference from the Monarchy) over their country than any other Monarch before.
The funniest thing about the whole 12th of July celebration is a lot of Protestants don't even realise that William Of Orange was supported by The Holy Roman Empire and a number of other Catholic nations under the league of Augsburg. The whole point of "The Grand Alliance" was to stop French expansion into Europe and that's why William came to England and then Ireland as James the II was Louis XIV cousin.
I love picking out this years best stuff then setting it off. I don't see why people should complain, its not like its every night.
Last few towns I've lived in it has been every night for the couple weeks before and after the 5th. So far this year, despite fireworks being on sale I've not heard any being set off.![]()
I completely agree, however they aren't banned so I have my big selection of Cat 2 and Cat 3 barrages and big rockets ready for next weekend. Also invested in Remote Kontrol firing to make things easier for mePersonally I think fireworks should be banned except for during organised events.
