I'm considering upgrading to a 3 screen eyefinity setup, but wondered if the new 6000 series cards supported 3 monitors connected via DVI or 2 via DVI and a third by HDMI. I know the 5000 series doesn't allow this, and you have to connect one via the DP connector, but I don't know if this is the same for the 6000 series or not (if it is, and I go ahead with it, I would probably just get a DP>VGA adaptor)

On another note, which do you think is better?

Option 1:
T260 (26" 1920*1200 central monitor), 2x VX922 (19" 1280*1024 sides)
HD4870 powering the centre and a side, and the other side powered by a USB adaptor (I don't game on the USB connected monitor)

Option 2:
3x24" 1920*1080 monitors, powered by a 5850 or a 6870. Selling all the other monitors, gfx card, and USB adaptor.

I know the second part is probably better of in the monitors forum, but I thought I would add it on the end here anyway.

I would pick option 2 because I like all the screens the same size. But couldn't you get an display port to DVI adaptor. That's what I am going to be doing when I have enough money for 2 more screens :)

Dp>DVI adaptors are more expensive, as they have to be the active type, and they cost around £100 if I remember correctly, or it won't work for the 3rd monitor.

And yea, I would rather go with option 2, just not sure if it'll be worth it for the cost...

HDMI is the same as DVI, so will only work with an active adapter. It's because both HDMI and DVI are digital, but VGA is an analogue signal.

Most of the cards are full sized DP connectors anyway. The eyefinity edition are all mini DP, but only very few normal cards have mini DP from what I have found.

So to clear this up, you can use the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter for resolutions up to 1920x1080 on the 6870 graphics cards?
