Evolution of the joy pad

Its a bit wierd, People were fine with the design when it was the only option. Then the 360\Xbox S-pad came along and people started to hate the PS pad.

I mean dont get me wrong, 360 pad is great and so is the S-pad, and i understand the love for something until something better comes along, but what i find silly is how its gone to such a black and white place. Now something better has come along all of a sudden the PS3 pad is horrendous and steals babies for food. Rather than just being surpassed yet still be fine and useable.

Im actually of the opinion that the PS3 pad is better for most games, where as the 360 pad is better for just FPS games.

I've never liked the PlayStation pad, despite owning the PS2 and now PS3. Aside from a short while (original pad), it's always had a better competitor. It doesn't fit as it should, the sticks are in the wrong place on the pad and the triggers don't face the right way either.

They should have taken the opportunity with the PS2 to change it, and at the very least the PS3. They've tacked on bits just to maintain the design.

The ideal pad for me would be a cross between the feel/shape of the 360 pad and Gamecube pad. Wireless, a set of analogue triggers (that can 'click' like the GC pad). It should also charge via USB. Drop the Select button in favour of just a menu/start button and a home button. I suppose Six Axis controls could feature, though I can't think when I've ever used them for the PS3.

I find them very uncomfortable to use, they make my hands ache at the terrible layout and size

I'd say the main flaws with the PS pad are the placement of the analgoue sticks and the layout and feel of the shoulder buttons.

I find the offset analogue sticks on the 360 style pads far easier to use, and just more natural. The same goes for the shoulder buttons, especially when playing any game where you need to shoot repeatedly. The triggers on the 360 pads just have a nice solid 'clicky' feel to them that the ps pad doesn't have.

The problem with the PS pad for me was with the introduction of analogue sticks, never used the analogue sticks in any PS2 games only with the PS3 as it became more of a necessity, I just hate the position of them and find the 360 placement much better.

Think thats what happened when the original xbox pad was released, 'most' people preferred the placement and when Sony didn't change it for the PS3 either. Outrage! :p

I find them equal tbh, I hold each controller differently though, the PS3 controller rests on my fingers but I grip the xbox controller more, this kinda cancels out the problem of the placement of the analog sticks on the DS3, for me anyway

Thats the same as me, It rests in my hands loosly on my little fingers and the finger next to it, leaving the other fingers and thumbs to work the controls. Not uncomfortable, no problems.

360 pad is the most ergonomic of the lot.

the only pad on that list that gives me blisters because of how hard you have to grip its awkward shape (as others have mentioned)

the sticks are rubbish , the d pad is awful , no analogue buttons in 2010 ? , heavy for no reason , rubbish feeling finish. my left thumb is not longer than my right thumb either

/goes to find way to use ps pad with xbox
