Is the Stalker series worth a buy at £6.24 on steam?

Evening all,

Im crying out for a new game so thought i would see what steam has to offer and i come across the stalker double pack for £6.24. Never played the game before just wondered what peoples views are on this game?

If im honest i much prefer 3rd person games and this looks like a 1st person but does look kinda good
 
got Shadow of Chernobyl for about £3 about a year ago and can honestly say that it was well and truly average. But i guess its personal preference

but with both going for £6.24, I'd say buy it!
 
ive tried a few times to get into the first game and when i did i found quite a decent game underneath with some great atmosphere. you need to be quite patient with it though and really give it a chance to grow on you/you to get into.
 
What is the game itself actually like? what is the main idea of it? Im just looking for a good scary shooter thats kinda fun to play. Saw resident evil is quite cheap over at steam at the momment as well. Had a look at the new fallout 2 but never played the 1st one so not to sure on it

I couldn't get into Stalker at all. The graphics were horrible, the combat was daft and the weapons felt awful.

I think there are some good mod for it though if you're into that.
 
I paid £30 for the original and £20 for clear sky and £20 for pripyat and all three were worth every penny


excellent graphics, good story very moody and a lot of value so to speak in terms of game length and depth
the weapons start off poop till you get better ones then its excellent
for that price you would be and Rtard not to

Aye that'll be the one, not 100% needed thanks to the official patches for a first run through, but it is a nice improvement. You may want to play without the additional combat mod enabled, last time I tried it, it made it a bit frustrating especially with the modded AI throwing pin point grenades that blew up within a second of landing. (in fact that may have not been an optional mod, I forget, but if you do find the combat a bit of a quick save/load fest, just try it without the mod, its a lot fairer)

Something similar is in the works for CoP but I don't think its out yet, but CoP is completely fine out of the box.

Must admit the mod does look fab! Is it just an exe file that need to be run and installed?

Would it be best to play SOC first before any of the others? Is it true as well that an xbox controller wont work with this game? not used a keyboard for gaming in ages :D
 
Run the game once on steam before installing the complete mod or it doesn't work properly. Just start a new game and then exit.

Complete mod makes stalker ace and the game it should have been. Like many I got it when first out and never got into it. Complete mod makes it look superb and fixes the bugs.

But it still takes about 3 hours before you really get into it and then your hooked.
 
Cool, im sure i remember playing this game b4 and not being able to get into it. I always remember it being kinda confusing if indeed this was the game i played, is it one of the games where you have to do a lot of interacting? or can you just go all guns blazing :D
