Seems like there is a lot of negativity and taboo surrounding alcoholism, but really is it that bad? They seem to have a fun time and enjoy themselves. If it's as awful as everyone says they wouldn't do it.

Rofl, Alcoholism is anything but taboo, it is pushed from every angle.
Cannabis, now there's something with negativity and taboo all over it.

i suppose it depends on the degree of alcholoism

2 bottles of vodka every day just to feel normal,, no thanks

People who're addicted to alcohol don't do it for the 'fun' of it. Binge drinking students and alcoholics are two different kettles of fish.

Seriously? You can choose to drink, but you can't really choose to be an alcoholic... it's an addiction to alcohol, just like an addiction to drugs. Being an alcoholic doesn't just affect the one person, it affects the surrounding people i.e. family and friends. You can't just say 'stop' and the person will stop being an alcoholic, just like you can't tell a smoker to quit smoking and they'll quit right away. It's an addiction - something you cannot easily control.

I smoke 2 packs a day and I can quit whenever I want. It's not addictive at all.
So if it's not addictive, why do you smoke as much as 2 packs a day? Many people say they can quit easily, but it's just all talk and no action. Trying going a week without smoking, see how you feel then.

Because smoking is nice damn it, we're not that stupid.

I'm not sure alcoholism can be a crime. Getting drunk and hitting people with rocks would be, but sitting at home drinking yourself to death is no more a crime than suicide is.

Alcoholism is brutal, coming off alcohol cold turkey can cause seizures (which can lead to death) and many other health risks, not to mention hallucinations, sweats, shakes, nausea and many other symptoms.

Of course it depends on how much they've been drinking, someone who has a few cans a night when they get in from work is ok, thats there choice, but full blown alcoholics do not have fun and theres a reason it gets the negativity it does.

Lung cancer isn't so nice.

Try living with an alcoholic. You'll soon realise how horrible alcoholishm is. It ruins lives.

and this

The people who live with alchoholics often suffer terrible physical and mental abuse. My wife has been scarred for life with her experiences as a child. It ruins lives.
