Usage of the word "gay"

Maybe it is juvenile, but me and my brother have a really bad habit of using 'gay' as a joke, we'll use it in almost any context to mean something or someone is a bit rubbish. My brother hates the PS3 so calls it the 'gaystation 3', when the Xbox launched the avatars I was winding him up saying 'I see the gaybox 360 is finally out of the closet'. When we're playing online games, if he gets one shotted, he gets called 'gay' etc.

I can honestly say that we don't attach any deep meaning to our use of the word, we aren't going out of our way to offend anyone, and it is always said in a jovial manner and definately not used as an insult in terms of there being real hatred behind the word, besides, when I have arguments with my brother or mates 'gay' doesn't often get verbally thrown around as there are far more hard hitting words we use to insult each other ;)

I personally have nothing against gay people, I don't think about what they do in terms of right or wrong, I really don't care what two dudes get up to in the privacy of their bedroom, that's their business and doesn't affect me and my life in the slightest. I'm all for more tolerance of gay people in society really, but come on, it's only a word and most times it is being used as a joke, I'd be more worried about someone saying things like 'All homosexuals must burn in the fires of hell', I mean I guess it's at least using the politically correct term, but the meaning and hatred behind the words is far worse than someone calling their mate 'gay' for a laugh imho.

Recently as in when exactly, it meant that 20 years ago, infact afaik as a kid I learnt the word gay as slang for anything rubbish before I learnt it was a name for homosexuals, I say the homo's should give us our awesome word BACK.

Screw that group of old people who want the word gay back for being happy, they're old, who cares about them.

Sexuality is a spectrum of grey, from dark grey/black to light grey/white. That has always existed. well I never claimed that gender and sexuality are the same thing did I, nor that gender has a large bearing on sexuality, as for transexuals, they are people who believe they were born in the wrong gender body, so a man who believes he is a woman and fancies men is straight really arent they, whereas a man who knows he is a man but fancies men is gay, of course theres the odd man who believes he is a woman and fancies women, making them gay, and vice versa with women, but still gay or straight, or bi

also, its nothing to do with the labels, you can call them what you want, you are either one or the other or both, no matter to what degree

I can believe what you're saying but surely it cannot be applicable to everyone?

I think you're right though, nature is unpredictable but there will always be the same sex attracted animals, as there will always be the ones that will never be. :)

I find that those who are quick to defend/entrench their sexuality are usually the ones with something to hide! ;) :p
