Will you be opening the door to 'them' tonight?

Not going to sit in darkness and pretend i'm not in. But I am going to ignore the door all night.

I'm surprised it's still allowed nowadays. It's practically a form of begging.

I am already prepared with a few bags of sweeties for the nippers. My brother and I used to go trick or treating under the watchful eye of my Mum when we were young so I don't see why I should deny todays youngsters of the same fun. It's the teenagers who could go buy their own sweets that aggrovate me.

moved the car of my drive, have now retired to my upstairs back bedroom with just a computer monitor light for illumination.

all the sweeties are MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We hardly ever get any visitors because of where our house is situated. At night, it's really dark and secluded, and we're the only house in our section of the cul-de-sac (you can barely see it in the dark through the hedges).

Yes we will be, it's fun for kids and it was fun for me when I was a kid.

People are far too miserable these days

Spot on. Just done our "round", plenty of families doing the same. Kids are now sat at the table happily killing their teeth and i'm armed with a big pot of sweets for when we get a knock at the door.

From what I’ve just seen it looks as though it will groups of tiny tots with their parents calling at houses where they have lit pumpkins, etc. So no need to worry. :D

This is why i can't see the annoyance, if you aren't "taking part" in the evening, you don't get a knock at the door.

Love how some of you are hiding in your own homes, it's only kids having fun. Got plenty of sweets in, although it was the wife who insisted..

Personally I'd just hand them out white lightening, it seems to be what most of them like anyway.

I never did it as a kid. Gay Fawkes > Hallowe'en all the way.

My house has a sign "beware of the dog" and I haven't had any trick-or-treaters in the 4+ years that I've lived here. The sign is also good for discouraging door-to-door salesmen. I've only had 1 person try to make me switch energy providers in those 4 years. Thankfully it doesn't seem to discourage most courier drivers, although a couple did phone me about the sign before they came to my door.

i love all the comments about sitting in the dark , isnt it funny what trick and treat results people to do:D

personally i find it fine if little kids do it with there parents but its when you get the teenagers who cant be bothered to make an effort

personally though i think it should be banned in the UK as we dont make as much effort , the US do it better.

An American custom:rolleyes: forced on those who don't want to partake. Ok you don't have to open the door but its still annoying.

Or not...

The practice of dressing up in costumes and begging door to door for treats on holidays dates back to the Middle Ages and includes Christmas wassailing. Trick-or-treating resembles the late medieval practice of souling, when poor folk would go door to door on Hallowmas (November 1), receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day (November 2). It originated in Ireland and Britain...

At the time of substantial transatlantic Scottish and Irish immigration that brought the holiday to North America in the 19th century, Halloween in Scotland and Ireland had a strong tradition of "guising" — Scottish and Irish children disguised in costumes going from door to door requesting food or coins.

;)

They will be out in force here in a few hours.

On a side note, there was lots of lovely 20 ish yr old young ladies in very rauncy outfits in TGI fridays on friday night.

Wife caught me looking though :(

My first Halloween in my new house, was quite excited, got some sweets in... Saw some kids making their way down the street... Never got to the end where I live! :(

So still waiting for my first Trick or Treater.
