Tell me about the autobox on the E90

Doubt they'll let you remap it? Would void the warranty and could get you into trouble with work if a dealer/lease company picks up on it?

And hope you don't have a big crash in the meantime :confused: Whats the point :Confused:

Im not saying its right, im just saying a lot of people do it.

Don't BMW's count the number of flashes the ECU receives? I thought this was the latest way of getting out of warranty claims?

I've heard that, they can see how many times the ECU has been read and then written to. Nothing ofcourse to say it's not a dealer that has messed up as the ECU will only have space for 1 map and won't be able to display previous maps. Even with a map left on there it takes a special piece of software and someone who has a copy of the original map to tell the difference.

I'm all for remapping, any car I get will get one unless;

i) It's an N/A
ii) It's a company car

How many crash investigators' first or even twentieth thoughts, when a 3 series company car is involved in an accident, is to verify the fuel map is the correct one? They won't even have the equipment to do this, and they will have to drag a corpse of a car to BMW, or have BMW drag the equipment to the car specifically just to verify this one fact. So unlikely that it will basically never happen.

He's talking about obvious plug in modules is he not?
He said remapped, and to me that implies a flash rather than a plug-in module. People will usually call that "chipped", in the same way you "chip" your Playstation.

Generic for each engine - no two engines are the same. My 318d and your 318d could easily have 10bhp difference from factory just on how it is built.

Generic mapping assumes the health and condition of your engine.

Just wondering as they seem pretty cheap and popular and to offer a map for literally every brand of car!
