I went ahead with the Insignia VXR

Whilst we're discussing vxr track days, will they return for next year? I missed my chance by being on holiday this year.

On the engine? Providing they are cooled properly (and the oil system is doing its job!) then yes, I believe an engine driven on track is less harsh than one started from cold twice a day, followed by sitting at constant revs for hours on end.

The rest of the car? Of course track work is going to take its toll more than sitting on a motorway, but as long as it is maintained properly, I don't see an issue?

I remember reading somewhere that a mile on track was equivalent to ten driven rapidly accross country - so cars that are primarly used on track 'age' much faster than road-driven equivalents.

But you knew that anyway, as it's obvious.

my point exactly (maybe better put however. Thanks :D )

i had a chat with the VXR brand director at croft - we've spoken a bit on the forums before and yes they'll definately be doing another next year. Least thats the VXR brand management teams plans, unless vauxhall pull the plug or something they should be fine.

Is this as a result of your considerable racing driver experience?

You are amazing, really you are :D

I dont think there was a single car there that wasn't crashed multiple times over high curbs at reasonable speed for example. Some of the instructors made you drive the cars very, very, very hard. And then the second you got out, somebody else got in and off it went again for another 3 laps of hard driving.

Over and over and over.

Woop :D

Bearing in mind the VXR track days require the cars to be turned on at least once when they are cold, this is one of the silliest comments I've ever read in Motors.

Classic.

I think the OP can safely wave goodbye to this thread now Mike has started

Isn't he brilliant? The one thing that struck you every time you walked up to or stepped out of a car was the overwhelming stench of clutch. That's indicative of a car that's not suffering any sort of out of the ordinary wear at all, that is.

Unlike a quick jaunt up the M6, obviously :D

When I do a long journey on the motorway, I like to do it in third and on the rumble strips. Hasnt done me any harm

Also, wasnt there a whole thread yesterday about why "running from cold" was, in fact, the best thing for an engine?

I'll try that again, seeing as I had to spend 60 seconds making it.

When will you stop misquoting me?

How is that relevant? I'm talking about the engine, not the car.

Please link me to this thread about running a car from cold, it sounds hilarious.

I quoted your entire post. How can you misquote somebody when you quote everything they just said?

You live in your own dream world. It's a good job it's so amusing pointing this out to you on a regular basis, otherwise it would be getting quite tedious.

Almost as hilarious as sitting at 70mph in 6th gear for 2 hours causes more damage/wear & tear to a car than tracking it to the limit for 2 hours, hitting stuff, getting air, redlining, destroying the clutch.

I was referring to your 'racing driver' comment, and you know it.

Because yea, the engine is all that matters right?

It is when that is what I was discussing.

Do you never wonder why whatever you say, however you mean it, nobody ever agrees with you?

Do you never stop to think just once 'You know what, it might be me?'

Do you get this every where you go or just on here? Think carefully before lying :p

How does hitting stuff, getting air, hitting an electronic rev limiter or destroying a clutch have anything to do with the health of the engine?
