With times being so tight at the present, I have decided to return to Door Supervision in order to boost my income...

Problem is it's been 4 years since I did any work of this type and I have not trained in Ju-Jitsu in roughly 6 years...

I want to get into a Martial Art again, so on the rare occassion I cannot reason with someone or it's a full moon, I'm confident in defending myself! Now I enjoyed studying Ju-jitsu as I liked the discipline however I found it's real world application to be a tad lacking...

So my question is what Martial Arts would you recommend and why and do they have significant real world use?

+1 for Judo. Throwing onto concrete hurts. Whatever you can commit to for a number of years before you become good, since you wont become Dan Inosanto in 2 months xD. You might want to try some clubs, see what they're like and what suits you

Muay Thai Boxing

/thread

How would that be any good for subduing a person as a doorman? Muay Thai would result in a doorman more than likely injuring a person, which isnt really what a doorman looks to do, he looks to control while avoiding injury to himself and others.

My friend has some training, I'll find out what it was he trained in. But whatever it was, Its more about restraining someone without injurying them.

He showed me some sort of move a few weeks ago, which essentially left me with my arm behind my back being moved in any direction he desired, All by holding my thumb!!! : \ And I was trying to resist!

I do agree with the Judo recommendations

I went to a mixture of thai quando and kung foo - typhoo, I've got lots of cups for it.

I'd probably do a little of boxing and stick with your BJJ, whilst its real world application isn't great, they both do wonders for your job description, and of course, if it does come down to it and its time to stand and bang, your quids in.

That does ring a bell actually, I think he may have said that and I forgot what it was called.
C&R - Control and restraint right? OP I'd have a look into that

Yup. Taught to police and prison staff. Been on the receiving end of it on numerous occasions and once you're in a lock the worst thing you can do is fight against it. You only end up hurting yourself.

Lol, didnt take long for a bite! I thought all doormen were just bullies? :)
"I have the right to through you out of this club so im going to do it as rough as possible"
The above is a joke sorry

Back to the OP. The most popular are BJJ and TKD. If you have already trained in JJ then try TKD, it will be an experience you wont forget I promise. On the same note dont be so quick to rule out Muay Thai, its a lot different actually knowing how to fight when in these situations!

TKD is one of the worst martial arts out there, its laughable, what are you talking about!?

Surely Akido would suit a doorman, as far as i know its 99.99999% about defending yourself and restraining other people from hurting u

Probably Judo would be best suited to bouncer work. Take downs and countering weight offences.

I agree with Johnnytoxic here as a lot of fights end up on the floor. Judo isn't about punching or strikes, it's about restraining (and if you want to, choking the **** out of them).
