Why are Netgear routers so damn rubbish??

I got a Netgear once & the wireless failed, I think in hours. Took it back, the guy at the store said they get complaints about them all the time. I find it ironic a company called Netgear has bad routers...

I have a netgear dgn2000 which failed after about a year.....I think it overheated but there support line was very good and got a new one pretty quickly. Also I have found the router easy to use with great performance but I do not use wireless much.....

I've had Netgears for years, supplied by Sky and then Virgin. All have been fantastic. The current one is a Netgear WGR614v9 which works beatifully.

A fish finger in the eye is better than a homehub, no?

I have no issues with homehubs. Quick play with settings and config and off you go. Used loads of routers/modems/switches and they are just as good as the other freebies sent out with ISP's. Sure they have their little quirks but the same as others. If you want more features etc. then you figure in the replacement cost with the contract, and if someone is offering a router you'd prefer then surely you'd take that into consideration before you signed the contract???

BT Home Hub holds a higher sync than my Billion plus it has a built in ATA and DECT base...

My DG834GT was an utterly fantastic router, until I realised that UPnP didn't work at all. Running multiple games machines on the same network I needed it to work flawlessly so had to change. Now running a WAG320N Linksys By Cisco router and it's working perfectly. Just a shame the Netgear couldn't do UPnP properly otherwise I'd still be using it.

i had loads of issue withe bt broadband router, and then bought a belkin also had loads of problems with that so i then bought a netgear router dgn2000 and have never had a problem with it. it is switched on 24hrs a day everything connects to it and it just works unlike all the others i have had.

i have a ps3, wii, 2 pcs, 2 nitendo ds and a kodak printer and i dont have any issues with anything where as all the other devices i have had gave me connectivity problems all the time.

maybe you were just unlucky and got some sub standard ones.

I think everyone can have issues, and I also think that some people don't spend as much time as I do tweaking my homehub. It's horses for courses!

tbh my Netgear DGN2000 has started dropping the ADSL connection since we moved,
syncs at 16MBPS but damn it's flaky!
anyone know of a mod to make it more stable/less prone to overheating?

Get hold of one of those Netgear stands?

Tried updating/using a different firmware, that could be the problem.

If the router was fine at the old house it sounds more like your line cant actually handle 16mbps and so keeps resyncing trying to stabilise itself.

My DG834G worked flawlessly for years and years, then the wireless died so I got another second hand and it still works today. Although not used now because I'm on vdsl.
