quick question, looking to purchase a 40D when i've got the funds in a few weeks time. Now this is my first SLR, so the plan was to pick one up that has the kit lens with it. The ones with a kit lens dont seem to attract much of a premium on ebay, but i was wondering if there was a cheap lens that might present a better 1st time buy ? a 50mm or something ?

Needs to be cheap, funds for lens' will come when i've got more cash next year.

The EF-S 18-55mm IS kit lens is not so terrible and you'd feel too limited with a 50mm f/1.8 if it's your only lens and it's your first SLR.

I'll be selling a 40D with a 50mm f1.8 mkII soon. It won't be as flexible as buying a 18-50 kit lens though, but when I first started out with a DSLR I used the fifty more than the kit lens by a large margin.

You should easily be able to pick up a 40D for £350-375 on the bay. Keep an eye out on second hand 50mm 1.8s.

re assuring

just seen one that went from £200 to £450 in the space of about an hour.

Guess i'll just have to be patient and wait for the right one. I'll have the funds by the end of the week, if anybody sees a nice one let me know.

I bought my 40d from TP, they generally do look after their kit and will post the condition a LOT more honestly than ebay as it's also their reputation on the forum.

Agreed, just bought the 24-70L from there, feels very reassuring buying from that place :)

I'm not registered on TP, i've signed up now but isnt that going to put people off, selling to somebody who'se only just joined with 0 posts ?

Thats exactly why OcUK has the MM rules to stop people like me being able to buy/sell.

Well I don't think can access it till you have 100 posts anyway dude, get spamming ;)

On a serious note I've only got 117 posts on there or something and buy/sell on there a bit...that forum is worth it alone for its MM. Always got loads of gear going at great prices. :)

See, honest :)

Don't get that though. I would pay probs about £340 for that tbh. No lens, box or manual? No ta :)

Just keep mashing that F5 button :)

Trick is to NOT settle. I was hunting that place for z 24-70L for days and nearly paid £100 over the 'going rate' for one but I held on, and nabbed one for £675 last night ;)
