As in title, I am wondering if anyone has done this.

The Essence comes with 3 of them
2x JRC 2114 = I/V converter for both RCA outs and headphone out
LM4562 = Final buffer stage for RCA out

I'm considering 2 x LM4562NA (LME49720NA) DIL Dual Opamp in each of the I/V sockets. And leave the stock LM4562 as is.

As I know, the LM4562 is a great opamp and that is the reason that you can find it in many sound cards designs. I think you can get the NA model or the MA model coz the NA is the DIP 8 version you can use on Xonar Essence while MA is the SOIC version that you could use it with an adapter.

Sorry to drag this thread up again,

Did you change those Opamps Flanno? i've just ordered ' LM4562NA Dual Opamp from National Semiconductor (same as LME49860, LME49720) - 8 Pin DIP ' (quote from another site).

How did they fare mate?.

Thanks for that mate, I plan to change both (not the buffer) so it seems to be a worthy upgrade for a tenner?

How did you find the Bass after the change, assuming your'e using headphones? I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 595's.

Regarding socket orientation, do I just insert the Opamps the same way around as the stock amps, i.e. the writing the same way up?.

Thanks again Flanno. ;)

Not much difference to bass but I am using HD 650's and the bass was adequate to begin with. Yes, it's imrpotant to insert the opamps the same was as the originals. Use a chip puller or long nose pliars to remove them. There are a couple of sites around which discuss it.

Actually I went back and ordered 2 LM49720's for the I/V sections and left the stock LM4562 in the buffer. It increased details and gave me a wider soundstage.

LME49720 = LM4562 BTW they are the same device.

I've got 3 x LM4562s in my Essence STX it sounds OK. I'm going to analyze it on a Prism Sound's dScope3 one of these days when I get around to it.

Yes I knew that. However according to some peoples ears on numerous websites there are differences though :D Could be the placebo effect I suppose. Anyway, happy enough with the change I made.
