I have just bought a Envy 17,and it has 4gb of ddr3.My main use of this loptop will be for gaming. So i was going to give it a bit more ram,but how much? Is 8 any overkill? It is 2x2 at the mo.Could i just buy a 4gb dimm and run 4+2?

I have just bought a Envy 17

Does it get hot on the bottom whilst gaming ie: so hot its unbearable?

There's some guy on notebookreview advising how he was playing his mate on an Envy whilst he was blazing away on his G73. Sometime later his mate was complaining that the bottom of the laptop was too hot, then a little later he was saying how it was on fire ie: plastic was melting on the outside.

Can I therefore ask, does it get unbearably hot on the bottom of the laptop? Or does it keep super cool?

Thanks.

I've only just got it so have not stressed it yet. They are suppose to be a bit of an oven. The top l/h corner gets warm.
I will have a play tonight.

I have a asus g73 and never gets hot under the laptop but the vents at the rear blow very hot indeed.

I must admit I like the idea of the cooling system the 73 uses. I've been thinking about buying the little brother the G51J but not can't help thinking that 1600ukp is a tad much. That said, I've considered more than a few times of importing a 73 but there seem to always be a number of problems with them either they need the processor reseating, the gpu refuses to work or some such nonsense.

I'm all for the 'enthusiast' market, but some of us would rather just buy it and use the damn thing not have to strip it down before use.

That said, did you buy it in the UK?

Just ran 3DMark06 (10863)and the top l/h corner gets warm/hotish,as its where the vent is.But the rest of it stays cool, maybe different after an hour of gaming though.

Yes i brought mine from here in the uk. The only problems i had was the so called Grey/Vertical screens of death but was fixed with a new driver patch from ati. I encode a lot of anime and play games and its never overheated or anything like that. I see a lot of people overclocking the g73 and i'm sure heating problems with happen doing that. Even these new msi gx laptops are haveing niggles here and there i have seen on some forums.
