You think they killed a tiger in the zoo because it was at risk of killing babies?
No pretty obviously I was talking about the ones that have been killed over the years in the wild as man has encrouched into areas they lived for thousands of years.

I watched these all last night and in all truth I don't think the lose of these animals was really that bad a thing. Extinction is a sad thing but unless they have the space they need to live, extinction is the only out come. People want that space and in the end the people of Africa will do to their large mammals that we in Europe and climate change did to Europe's large mammals. My life is non diminished by the lose of the Irish Elk and most defiantly not by the lose of the African Elephant, these things all existed due to us not existing in any great numbers in the past. Nature Selection, selected them above us at one point then we adopted.

We kinda already do that in zoos, but even then an elephant is pregnant for nearly two years. You can kill a lot of wild elephants in that time.
Or why don't you get a Mac-10 in three minutes and fly over there to kill the poachers?

Seriously though, we burned people at the stake in the past, doesn't mean we should do it now. I'd like to think that Homo Sapiens Sapiens is evolved enough to know some things are worth protecting, even if others of our species don't agree.
Who knows, we may just need these guys sometime in the future.
