Done Sergio's and loved it....

...where else is nice to eat in Bristol that isn't mega expensive and has a nice experience.

....may venture to Bath aswell, so any recommendations for there.

Thanks.

I went to the SevernShed last weekend and the food was good, although the place was a bit noisy. Probs best to go during the week, price was good too.

Will keep an eye on this thread as I could do with some recommendations myself. :o

Severnshed was bought out by Coal and I've heard it's gone downhill, but is still "good". And Giraffe... lolwut? Maybe for a quick lunch/brunch/smoothie, but not a meal.

There's a thread on this every month, so fortunately here's a list I made previously:

The Albion, Clifton - www.thealbionclifton.co.uk (English)*
Prosecco, Clifton - www.proseccoclifton.com (Italian)
The Muset, Clifton - www.muset.co.uk (English/Euro, also BYO)*

I answered his actual question. Nice to eat and nice experience and not expensive. We had a full meal there and it was very very nice. Sure I've had better, but for the money it was great.

What makes me laugh is that you rubbish Giraffe, and then recommend Loch Fyne. Probably one of the gashest chain sea food pubs/restaurants going.

For Bath, try here:

Not tooo expensive, but great food and great atmosphere

Maybe if you want a plastic giraffe in your drink, average food/menu and rammed full of families, then yeah, Giraffe's alright.

Loch Fyne do decent enough food and it's one of if not the only seafood speciality restaurant in the centre, hence it being listed - some people like fish. And pub? Eh? Maybe some of them are more pub-ish (never been to any others), but the Bristol one couldn't be further away from a pub if it tried.

Odd, I was in Giraffe last Saturday night. Not a single family in sight, and certainly no plastic Giraffes. The food menu offered things not normally found such as Thai King Prawns, etc. It's certainly not as "common" as Loch Fyne.

and certainly no plastic Giraffes.

You need to order a smoothie ;). The best thing is if you buy two you can spend the next half an hour trying to stand them on top of each other. I did, waitress was impressed. Cool story bro etc :p.

I guess I've been at bad times (weekend daytime).

Really want to go to The Rummer but heard it's "hard" to get into. Is that true, and if so how does one go about getting in? :p

Also never know they did food!

never found it hard to get into, but haven't been recently (used to go several times a month on a friday for a few nice drinks). And apparently gone more foody.

Not hard at all to get in for food, just book through top table and get yourself some points.

To me, Giraffe is nice but in the same league as Nandos, GBK, Pizza Express etc....
Somewhere I found that I really like is Source in St Nicholas Market. Really nice freshly cooked food in a lovely setting. They also have nice butchers, fishmongers and cheese counters. A hidden gem away from the chain restaurants :).

Giraffe! ;)

In that case I'd recommend The Albion, Prosecco, Goldbrick House, Byzantium, Sands, The Sausage Factory or Fishers. Rest probably aren't quite formal enough, but depends on what you want!

Went to uni in Bristol and spent 3 years eating at places I really couldn't afford. Been to most of the places mentioned so far, but my personal favourite was The Glass Boat (http://www.glassboat.co.uk/). Probably the best food I had in Bristol and a lovely atmosphere. If you book in advance and ask for a table at the window you also get an incredible view of the river. It's a little pricey but I definitely think it was worth it.

Not the cheapest of places to eat, but the Blue Rhubarb in clifton does some amazing food in a very plush environment. Might be what you are looking for!
