N8 or N900

There is little if any reason unless you really, really need a good camera to buy a Nokia anymore. The hardware is meaningless without the OS to back it up.

And I know phones, I've sat on over 1000.

The n900 is a nice phone IMO, but it is outdated now. Several phones out now that are better than the n8 and the n900.

the N9 hasn't got as good a camera, and may be missing other features too. All for the sake of a pull out qwerty, when you have an on screen qwerty on the n8.

The N8 is available currently, the N9 wont be out for at least 4-5 months..

If you want a phone with amazing hardware and a simple OS and arent too bothered about apps, then get the N8.

If you want apps then get the iphone4 (it does have signal issues though).

I have found the n8 to be nokia's most well built phone, the titanium shell and gorilla glass make this a well engineered phone. If you want a phone with a good camera go for the N8, if you want a gadget get the iphone.

Ah-haha. hahahaha. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

the N8 and the N9 aren't in the same league as phones. the N8 runs Symbian and has Symbian-class hardware.

the N9 runs Meego, and has hardware equivalent to current top-of-the-line Android and WP7 phones, as well as the hardware Qwerty and 800x480 screen res. the N8 and N9 aren't even in the same league, i suspect you are thinking of the E7 against the N8, in which case i agree entirely.

There was a time up until recently when i would have disagreed with you... but not anymore. Symbian is frankly, incredibly frustrating to use in comparison to modern/proper smartphone OSes.
my ONLY exception to this is Nokia Phones running Meego and nokia dumbphones, which are still excellent.

I was the same. Infact my recent phone history is 7650 > N70 > N73 > N95 8GB > N97 so its really something for me to now declare that Nokia dont make phones worth buying anymore.

Shame I had to find out the hard way.

I've had my N8 for approx a week and really like it. Then again, after being lumbered with an N97 for just under 18 months, any phone would have been an amazing step up.

In all seriousness though, I was all set on getting an Android based phone due to all the talk about it on here, and if you asked me 3 months ago whether I would go for another Symbian, I would have laughed at you. However.. my requirements from a mobile are: calling, texting and taking photos....that's it. So I took the risk on the N8 and am happy to report that it feels so much snappier to navigate than the N97 and I've had no issues with it at all. The camera is seriously impressive.

If your requirements are more expansive than mine though, you might want to look elsewhere.
