Black Ops system requirements?

After recently looking at the minimum system requirements for Call of Duty: Black Ops, I was worried as my CPU is just a tiny bit below the minimum requirement.

Here are the system requirements:

CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 or better
RAM: 2GB
VGA: Shader 3.0 or better 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600GT / ATI Radeon® X1950Pro or better
DX: DirectX 9.0c
OS: Windows® Vista / XP / 7
HDD: 12GB
Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible

I'm sure that the rest of the requirements would be fine as I can play Modern Warfare 2 on highest settings with no problem.

However, my CPU is an Intel Core 2 Due E6550, which is below the minimum. :(

Do you think that my CPU would still be good enough to play Black Ops?

If not, should I overclock my processor to 2.5GHz? (using the stock heatsink)

Thanks for reading. :)

I would have thought you would be ok with that processor, esp if you can play Modern Warfare 2. I would be wary of overclocking with a stock cooler

I would hope so.

I would have thought upgrading it by a couple of hundred MHz wouldn't do too much harm?

OP you can easily overclock to 2.5GHz from 2.33GHz(stock speed) on the stock cooler. I think you should have no problem overclocking to 2.8GHz on the stock cooler. Just keep an eye on core temps and make sure they stay between 60C-70C ideally keeping at around 65C during load:). Your cpu is more than capable of playing black ops especially when overclocked :).

If you can play MW2 on max, you should be fine. Software minimum specs are always a little overstated anyway, unless people criticise the manufacturers for "damn you i can't play this game on my pentium that's been through the washing machine".

Stock cooling is fine for mild overclocks, but keep an eye on your CPU temps anyway if you do rack it up a bit. Worst comes to worst, ~£20 gets you a cooler that would be able to keep it at stock temps even when overclocked to the max your CPU can cope with.

Great! Just what I wanted to hear. :)

I will probably overclock to 2.66GHz, then get the game pre-ordered. :)

Thanks guys.

Always pleasure to help:). Just for reference my old [email protected] (stock speed) could easily play Crysis at 1920X1080p resolution with occasional jitters. Once I overclocked to 3.2GHz the game became highly smooth.Plus Crysis is way more demanding than Black ops;).

My computer can play Crysis on High settings easily. Gets slightly jittery on Ultra however (average 25FPS).

I also hope that my Athlon X2 5600 can cope with this game :S Still a while untill I will be able to upgrade.

at OP , have you tried this?

Just type in black ops

For some reason my computer will not work with system requirements lab at the moment. I've tried everything. It just freezes. :(

But I pre-ordered the game this morning, so I trust you guys. :)

If my current CPU won't work, then I'll just overclock it to 2.66GHz, which shouldn't put the temperature up too much despite using a stock cooler.
