Having just had my PSU fail and lacking the drive to spend £30 to send it back to Corsair RMA in the Netherlands, I am in the market for a replacement.

I was considering the following which is similar to HX620 I had before, and able to CrossFire if i so wished.

My questions are has anyone got previous experience with XFX PSU's and are they well made and reliable?

I understand that XFX warranties are handled by the reseller (i.e. OCUK) does that extend for the full 5 year warranty period?

Yeah, it is a kicker having to pay to ship a PSU to the Netherlands isn't it?
although mine was more like £20. Still, the PSU was expensive enough, didn't need another £20 added to it. Plus it took them 10 days after DHL said it was delivered before it was entered into the Corsair system.

Really not impressed with the Corsair RMA service so far so can fully understand just buying a new PSU. I considered it, in fact I'm still considering it, if anyone would get the 750W modular XFX PSU in stock...

Also, I thought the XFX PSU you've linked to there was made by Seasonic? In which case my understanding is it should be very good.

Thanks for the responses, keep em comming. So XFX/Corsair etc are rebranded Seasonics? A brand I remember from the past seemingly they 'make for others' now. Good to hear people are pleased with them and the reviews are favourable. I know PSU's are one thing you shouldnt skimp on.

Sorry to hear you had similar issues Googalymoogaly. The price of shipping it + the aggrivation factor makes you think twice about posting it you do get the advantage of saving yourself £60-80 in the long run by RMA'ing it.

Antec are another PSU company based in the netherlands.

The OCUK warranty question might be in need of a webnote unless there are any bored employees floating about this time of night.

Thanks for the reply RJC ;)

XFX, Antec, Seasonic and Corsair are all names I'd trust (I think they're all made by Seasonic anyway). Generally, you get what you pay for in a PSU though- if you buy a cheap one, it's probably not going to be as well-made or efficient as the more expensive ones.

£60-80 is a good price point to go for. The one you linked seems perfect, unless you want to do both a heavy overclock and SLI/CF, in which case you might want to up it to 750.

You definitely shouldn't skimp on PSUs, you're absolutely right, but don't go overboard. No matter how awesome a 1kW PSU sounds.

edited it :D there are carppy generic psu that states 800w+ for that price point

Hehe, fair point :). Don't use crappy PSUs obviously, they will BLOW YOUR COMPUTER UP! (only half joking)

What I was trying to say was that for typical use, that should be your budget, as obviously you'll be wanting ~600 watts anyway (although if you're not overclocking or SLI'ing, 500 is enough really).

Also, don't believe crappy brands when they say they give 800W- a Corsair 550VX would probably give you more power.

Thanks for all the responses. I wanted the option to perhaps crossfire some 5850's in the future if required but a more likely upgrade would be more ram and a new hard drive at the moment
