Shoplifting? Moral objection, or just scared of being nicked?

I once shoplifted almost £200 worth of Kitchenwares from a DIY Superstore completely accidentally! I was buying everything near as damn it for a Kitchen, it was awkward as hell walking around carrying the stuff so I put everything inside my spanking new Pedal Bin as it made carrying just one thing much easier...

I made absolutely no secret of the fact I was putting everything in the bin, Staff there were helping me find stuff and talking to me as I was doing it! When I got to the till I was just completely shell-shocked when the completely bored and dis-interested girl asked me for £14.99 for just the bin...So I paid it and was about to say something when she started serving the next customer, I was WTF do I do now? So I walked out expecting every alarm in the whole world to go off but nothing happened. Couldn't believe how easy it was to do!

Accidentally.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight :p

I accidently stole £40 of petrol from the local station, went in for a waz and walked out again without paying... had to go to the police station and all..!!

also accidetnly stole a basket of shopping from tesco while drunk... (i walked round the shop loaded up a basket and walked home with it)... realised when the other half questioned me as to why we had a tesco shopping basket in the kitchen... (took it back and paid)

lmao.

So you can walk into a shop, help yourself to whatever you want and 100% wont get in trouble... its hellishly tempting!

This is what I'm thinking.
The shop mustn't be bothered about security so yes I would.
However your thread title asks if it's moral objection or just scared of being nicked - well that's why I don't do it in the first place but you have given me an opportunity to do it without any comebacks.

I've accidentally stole before, was only a few months ago actually.

Was in Tescos, picked up a bottle of Yazoo and was intending to pay for it, walked around a bit more and my friends decided to not get anything and went to the exit, I just followed and realised I hadn't paid when we was round the corner from the store.

I'd steal a massive rubber ***** just to slap you with it.

One time I was in Ann Summers with a friend - she was in there to look at vibrators. I spanked her on the ass with an ass spanker and she screamed so loudly. It was amazing.

Copyright infringement != theft.

Indeed. No matter what views you hold on the subject, it is not theft. It's copyright infringement. But people seem to have a hard time understanding theft anyway as I detailed in my earlier post, so I'm not suprised.

Again, Government is god. As long as some government official has said "download = theft", then it is so, regardless of the ACTUAL meanings of the terms.

Theft: Taking property without consent.

Downloading illegally: Copying property without consent.

Note the difference, copying someones property does not deprive them of theirs.

I have drawn a stickman on a paper. You take the paper, you're a thief. You feel like drawing a stickman too, you're copying me. Not too hard, is it?

Probably not.

I'm a coward, you see. I couldn't do something that I think and believe is morally wrong. Unless, of course, I was really super desperate (e.g. starving, family starving, unable to procure food via the "legal" route...).

I'm sure there are people who would do it "just because they can", assuming they could 100% get away with it. I couldn't.

God'll see, and I have a little arrangement with the big guy... It's the only way I'll bed Angelina Jolie.

Shouldnt look at it that way.. Better think if you had supermans powers. You wouldnt get caught, because your too fast. And even if they did catch you.. well what are they going to do to superman?

You believe tax is the government stealing?

I dont believe that to be stealing, i am not justifying it, and thus i am not contradicting myself.

Again, like talking to any religious fanatic. Your God is Government, and what the Government says Is, no matter any logical lapses.

You talked about what stealing was, as I quoted.

Tax is nothing but the same.

Theft is the taking of someones property without consent, with the threat of violence if need be. That is tax. You meant it's different because you can move. Well same with any theft, you can just move away. If someone tells you to leave your house or they will shoot you, nothing immoral about that according to you since you get the choice.

Government gives you the choice to left them steal from you, move or they will "shoot you" (In this case "merely" making do with throwing you in jail. Violence non the same).

But of course, You and your religion don't think so, so then it isn't so. All this just because it's a democracy behind it, and that makes it "not theft", because you and a majority don't think so. Well good on you. Democracy can justify ANYTHING.

This is why I gave up debating. There is just no point talking to religious fanatics, they will never change their mind since their belief in a higher power is absolute. You just substitute Government for God.

Slightly more on topic:

I wouldn't steal, no matter if I would never be found out. I'm perfectly incorruptible.
