There are these MP3 players where you plug the little reader into the cigarette lighter socket, plug your USB stick or CF card into the little the device and it beams it the radio, its great but has its downfalls, you cant fast forward, it freezes etc cant complain for a tenner

However, does anyone know of another type of device thats much better in terms of build quality and features but uses the same idea IE it plugs into the lighter socket and beams the music to the radio without having to plug any wires into the OEM head unit but is of a much higher quality than the one I have now

I know its kind of vague but if anyone knows of one they'll know what I mean

Thanks

I used to have a belkin ipod jobbie

worked amazingly france however around london it was awful and needed constant retuning and suffered from being subsequently thrown out of the window!

I got one of the £50 jobbies, wanted a decent quality one, hasn't failed me yet. Haven't been to London in the car, but it's worked fine in other cities. Plus I have an iPhone now, so it charges that aswell as it's an iPod one not a 3.5mm jack one. Doesn't fast forward, but I just stick it on shuffle. Will get rid of it when I get a new head unit.

If you get a Belkin or Griffin one with either Clearscan or Smartscan (I think Clearscan is Griffin, Smartscan is the Belkin equivalent), they perform pretty well and are easy. They find the emptiest frequency on their own, saves a load of faffing. You'll pay a bit more, £35 and up, but it's worth it.

Sounds good i'll checkedy check it out the price is fine

You will be when you cry with rage every time you entered a built up area.

I dont understand that because I practically live in a town centre and very built up area and the £10 one I have at the moment seems fine, no issues with interference at all, in fact its quite surprising how clear it is

I've fitted a http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/car/multimedia/system_expansion/KOS-A200/ in my Scorpio.

Ran the USB extension into the armrest so I can swap USB sticks on the fly.

Comes with remote control and displays track number/title/album titles on the RDS display. As it's a direct connection to the radio there is no interference and it keeps the stock look - as I have a 1.5din unit I didn't really want to faff with faceplates etc.

The Parrott bluetooth kits offer USB and bypass your stereo.

You can get one for less than £100.

That Kenwood thing is cool, although I still don't hold high hopes for the quality of a device like that (Over FM, whether its in line with the aerial or not).

Does the kenwood "disconnect" the main aerial when in use?

Yes. The existing aerial plugs into the Kenwood unit then the Kenwood unit plugs into the existing head unit.
