Im feeling like a *expletive* n00b.

Im always giving away "free" advice, laughing at the little mistakes of life, feeling I know best, you know just being a man, since its computers I know, I laugh hardest when its something related.

Decided to buy 3D mark vantage, ended up buying PCmark due to pure incompetence.

Now this is a mistake but to compound it with:

I have a 480 sitting waiting on me, only have it a few days as the brother gave me a shot to get rid of my "just buy the best of last generation" mindset.

Wanted 3d vantage to truly test my £200 4870x2 vs his £350 GTX480.

facepalm bigtime

PCMark is a much better benchmark truth be told....for a system.

Yeah I will have use for it, wont go amiss really but I was going to do one of those 5 hour, every test I can get my hands on sessions, not everyday you get the chance to bench a new card.
Ah well not a total waste there's always crysis

Huh? I did'nt get the secondpart?

Sorry bud, I wanted to put my 4870x2 through a battary of tests then do my brothers 480 with the same system/settings

I only have the 480 until Friday.

Vantage is outdated now regardless. Heaven is better for the latest cards.

Could heaven pull me from the hell I find myself in (pun completely intended).

Looks good, Im such an old fashioned benchmarker ;)

sounds more like e-penis envy. benchmarks are just for show and folders. the only test that matters is slap a disc in the drive and play, then you can decide if your rig is still up to par ;) if you can average around 50fps to your preferred gfx settings then you shouldn't really worry about getting 500fps from ultra high end set-ups ;). games are basically console ports so even "old tech" can handle them quite well

Agreed mainly.

The game is what its all about for me.

Its not e-peen envy I do ok money wise, I could drop that type of cash on a new card but my senseabilities tell me not to.
I also like benching....no crime there

Same reason I havent went i7, ddr3 etc is due to not seeing the point of that kind of cash for real world performance.
My brother had a 4870x2 and upgraded to 480, he has went on and on about this, he is a benchmark junky,

Need to go with a bench mark here as I only have results for my 4870x2 with games

My 9800gx2 (cost me £70+5 p&p= £75 gets 19906 on 3dmark
My 4870x2 (cost me little under £200 gets 21000 on 3d mark
I feel like I should have never dropped the cash on the ATI card

My brother, is far more bench driven said I should test his card and then I would see why he dropped that kind of cash, now mind its a single GPU I wanted to see if it was as good, I only run XP, I care little for DX10/11

Why do you want to test it? Shouldn't you be, I don't know, using it to play games or something?

Also, did you pay money for benchmarking software? Money that you could have spent on, oh I don't know, GAMES?

I know it a double post but....yes spent money....dont need any more games, have ,well, them all (all being what I play, jees 95% i dont really)

Playing games is over rated, I have rarely played a game after I completed it, now benching a game gives different results almost every time

But what does benching achieve for you, to make it better than online gaming or something?

Facepalm should be reserved for the fact that you spent money on a benchmark. Use free ones or "acquire" the benchmarks for free. Tbh it's something you'll use once ever 1 or 2 years. Not worth a penny.

I find trying games that didn't work so well on old machine, on a new one is a far better benchmark, but then I shop in the budget section so its easy to find demos of games that are unplayable :D
