Dear god

I did?

Some of my car is financed yes, but it is pointless for me to tell you what I pay etc. as it all depends on your own circumstances, size of your deposit, price of the car etc.

There is no way I'd recommend spending £10k on a car without having at least £4k to put down on it first, or you could find yourself in negative equity pretty quickly, if the used values suddenly plummet.

Might I suggest you start your own thread if you want to discuss it anymore though, I think we've derailed this thread enough as it is.

I have a 1.6 Standard Focus, and for all intents and purposes, it is great. It manages to be comfortable, economical whilst remaining a "dynamic" drive (lol buzzword). At 5 years/40k miles old, it still drives like new, and It'll probably cost no more than tyres, tax and servicing for the next 5 years, too.

Ok well each to their own, but for 5.5k looking for a reasonably new, reliable, day-to-day car i'd pick a Golf TDi.

Quick engine remap and your day-to-day car is more than "dynamic".

I think you misunderstand the word "dynamic". No run of the mill VAG group car can be described as anything near to approximating "dynamic". "Dull" would be a better word, or maybe "disconnected". My Leon Cupra R is "fast", but it's about as dynamic a drive as a golf cart.

The Focus feels like a better drivers car (not a better built car, or a car with a higher perceived level of quality, or even brand image), but a better drivers car than a typical Golf.

I've got a 1.6 in the same colour. It's fine, but I think it could use a slightly bigger engine. If I was buying one today, I'd definitely try and get a 2.0.

Yes, the 2 litre. 140bhp isn't terrible, and 0-60 in something like 8.5 seconds.

142bhp according to the figures and 0-60 in 8.9 according to Parkers, but is it better than that then?

Is this 2.0 the same engine as in the Fiesta ST?

No idea, I pulled the 8.5 second figure straight out of my head (perhaps from Ford literature?), but these figures tend to vary greatly depending on where you read them. Some are to 60, others to 62 etc

I only need insurance details for them to tax it.

I was about to say this on your behalf.

My GF recently bought an EP3 Civic TypeR from a dealer and they couldn't actually tax it under their business insurance policy. Instead she had to take in her cover note to tax it which meant a slight delay in collecting the car.

It's got nothing to do with proving to the dealer that you have insurance for the vehicle. Thats your problem....not theirs.

Edit: Enjoy the car OP. Good cars.
