DO I NEED A 6970.

I'm not suggesting it will btw :-) Just that if paging comes into effect then the stutters will be less (ONLY if the game is installed on the SSD and the page file is on the SSD).

Not sure have a page file on the SSD would be a very good idea though? could decrease your SSD lifespan quite quickly?

Anyway... gone off topic: No, I really doubt you'll 'need' a 6970, but it would certainly last you longer. I would go for what you can comfortably afford, and uprate some other parts that might be lacking.

Without knowing the price of the 6970 series stuff it's really going to be hard to say, but the bottom line is you don't 'need' it, or a 480 GTX. You can get some cracking deals on the 470 GTX stuff though which is still a damn good card.
 
lolz, im 80 - 20 sacking the new cards and getting 2 470's i think, or am i ?

Do it on price, and just write off what you can't or really would prefer not to pay then. You need to narrow your options some how.

If you still come around to being able to afford the top card, and your not screwing yourself over for it in the future, then do it, get the best.
 
Raven already answered this, i'm in exactly the same situation, I am tempted by the GB 470 SOC but its a matter of weeks before more information on the 69 series is released, i'm hoping the 6950 will be a better more efficient card for similar money. Waiting is a bit of a gamble as the 470's may possibly sell out but theres always another alternative, espeacially at the £250 price point
 
the way im looking at it is like this
i have an amount of money set aside for new card/s
new cards come out i buy 1 and im gonna be left with possibly a few quid
i buy 2 470's i have better performance than 1 new card and still have a few quid left
is that a silly way to look at it ?

If there was some info on the 6970\6950 price\performance then perhaps I would wait but no gaming for two weeks now and brand new Fallout NV sitting in front of me its driving me mad. Think I'm gonna go for the GB470SOC and an SSD, making sense to me.:eek:

Decide on what makes sense for you. I wont regret whatever I do but will you, if not then 2 X 470SLI sounds good to me.:D

I see, thats different then as i'm still running my old card.

In that case the 470 SOC would be my choice for sure at the current price, its come down a lot over the past few weeks
 
470 SOC is 10.5” long, same size as a stock 480, review here, you get a lot for your cash over a standard 470.

Memory overclocking on fermi nets minimal gains and can destabilize the core overclock, clocking the core is where you net the big boost.
