Hi All,

I have some friends coming over from canada to visit london and europe a thought it would be a good idea to give them a gps phone so they can use google maps to get around.

However i am concerned about the accuracy of gps phones. Sometimes my HTC hero does not find my location correctly (especially in canary wharf) and i am worried a gps phone will tell them they are on a different street area etc.

Does anyone know if sat nav systems like garmin or tomtom are more accurate?

Thanks

I purchased CoPilot specifically for when I was in London for my X10 and it was a excellent.

I use it in the Car now too, as in my Van i use a Garmin, and there is hardly much difference. Maybe Garmin is slightly better for specific task in vehicle use, but obviously nearly useless for walking about with.

thanks, garmin have brought out slim downed version for cities with detailed maps and the devices only cost £99.99, which is a lot cheaper than a good gps mobile phone. So i am stuck. If money wasnt a factor i would get a HTC wildfire or desire, but when comparing £100 to £260 or £400, its a big difference.

there seems to be a real lack of comparisions these days between using a gps phone to get around a city or a sat nav, on foot. Maybe i will do one and post on youtube! lol

Without wanting to jump on the SF bandwagon, does the Orange San Francisco have decent GPS signal? I assume it has Google Maps ala with Android etc.

From using it myself, i don't have any problems with it, the battery does get a hammering when in use mind.

Phone is rooted mind, so im not 100% what it comes with standard i have google maps, plus the full sat nav function which i love. My sony works better but it's mainly on reroutes, it does a slightly better route, speed wise i find the orange sf better plus i love how it zooms in when approaching junctions/roundabouts.

For the price and task you'd be mad not to look at it.

Don't forget you get the benefit of assisted gps from the phone network, plus by using google it goes through the network for a location, so you can just simply search for what you're after instead of needing an exact location.

Yup, im on payg and so far it's not touched my credit

Data usage is very minimal when using sat nav, maps will use a good meg or two easy when looking around, but again when using gps hardly anything.

Doubtful, may as well by the orange sf for £80 if you can haggle a discount, that way it's yours permanently.
