Galaxy S 2.2 (Froyo) now available through Kies

I am still to find what the big fuss is going from 2.1-2.2, been using it for a week now and all I can see major difference is flash which I disable anyway.

Using JPA...rooted and OCLF and no different to my previous froyo install except my GPS is a bit snappier.

If only I could get Kies to 'see' my SGS. Four different PC's, multiple installations, tried multiple 'fixes' from the web - nothing works. It just does not want to connect in Kies Mode. Mass storage is fine but no use when you need to update the firmware.

Kies = POS

I had this problem with my laptop and work pc, both running windows 7, Although they both worked for a few day when i first got the phone. So tried installing it on my HTPC which is running vista x64, and managed to install the updates fine. Although it only picked up the internal memory of the phone and not the expernal SD card.

Mass Storage works fine on all my pc's too. Not tried it yet with 2.2 installed, i'm hoping it'll work. But wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.

The people that are unable to update - have you got the latest version of kies install as there has been an update of this too. Although it doesn't fix the issues above unfortunately

In case you didn't see it in the other thread.

To force the JPO firmware update over Kies.

Using the next to latest Samsung Kies version 1.5.3.10093.82, not the latest as it's disabled the reg hacks.

I've uploaded it if you can't find it > http://www.multiupload.com/R16MNGKV4T

Open Regedit.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\4]
"HIDSWVER"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEU"

"LocalVer"="1.5.3.10103.100"

Oh and the latest SGS x64 USB drivers > http://www.multiupload.com/AKDXXIHPIO

If you can't get the MTP driver to load (kies update) try dis-mounting the internal SD. Remove the SD card and SIM, clear the cache from the recovery mode and try again.

If you check the product code, anything other than XEU is branded. You could be waiting a awhile with three. Although O2 is worse I think, still on the official 2.1 JF1 from the phone's release.

This is the firmware list on Samsung's FUD server. You won't always get the latest version on there with a Kies update, depends on the active XML. But you can download most of them and try to decode it to direct flash with Odin.

After the above post about a different OS, I've just installed Kies on my Netbook thats running XP and joy at last..!!

Kies picked my phone up first time with hassle and I'm now running 2.2.

On the down side I can't actually tell the difference apart from a few menu changes etc...:confused:

Dunno what all the fuss was about really.

Thanks for the information provided above to try and help with Kies :)

I will put in my spare laptop drive with XP on it and see how it does from there.

fornowagain - thanks. Your post put me on the right track and after a lot of messing around I managed to update my phone.

Hopefully the following will be of use to someone:

Using the guide above I tried a full phone reset (more on this below) for Kies to be able to detect the phone. I also had to delete to values of DEVCONINFO and HIDSWVER in the same DeviceDB as mentioned above. This can all be done with Kies open.

My wife has the same phone as me and could not connect. Both phones would not go into Kies mode which would prevent them from being updateable. I reset my phone to get it to connect correctly (full wipe). But on the wifes phone I went online with the error message and someone had discovered it was all down to the launcher I had installed - the phone will not go into Kies mode unless I switched to TWLauncher using Home Switcher.

I managed to update the wifes phone without a full reset :)

Thanks everyone for all of you help.
