My wife’s side of the family are Christians (Church of Scotland)
Church going seems to be more of a means to prove ones social status these days, at least from what I have observed. I have been to church quite allot since meeting my wife (Sunday service, Christmas, church wedding, son was christened there etc)
The regulars seem to be middle to older age and incredibly ignorant and frankly unpleasant people. The minister is a really nice person though, and very relaxed about things. She has a sense of humour that comes through during the services so perhaps that breath of fresh air is what keeps me going back. I have also noticed more younger people and children attending recently.
I have had several discussions with my mother in law on the subject of Religion and the bible and I would be as well banging my head against a wall.
Everything from the bible is taken so literally it's unbelievable....the fact that I try to say that religion is very personal and I have my own interpretation of things (no I don't think Jesus died and came back, I think he was just "a guy", there is no invisible man in heaven waiting to smite non believers etc)
falls on deaf ears. I am wrong and thats the end of it
