Religion - I can understand someone believing in god/jesus, but why do they believe in the bible?

Here's why I understand what the OP is on about (taking Christianity as an example):

First you had "Christianity".

Then you had the East–West Schism which created the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church because people disagreed and decided they were right.

Then you had the Protestant Reformation which created Protestantism out of a split from the Catholic Church because people disagreed and decided they were right

Christianity is the belief that Jesus is the Son of God. After that you are just being shuttled into a collective group based on who was doing the shuttling (the State you were living in mostly) at the time.

For example I could create Fillado's Church, where I edited and added to existing Christian branches as I saw fit. Then if I get enough people to follow my Church it becomes a valid form of Christianity purely because the masses felt (or were forced) to make it one.

I didn't say you were confusing the two. Based on an inherent misunderstanding of the nature of 'something', you mean? ;)

I can dismiss God so easily. It makes no sense for this 'something' to be of a human anthropomorphic nature. That's just humans self-assumed status at the top of the food chain taking place. I know sense and spirituality/religion don't go hand in hand.

Spirituality and Religion are not the same thing. If you read about Hindu, Mayan, Buddhist teachings you will see that many of the philosophies we see emerging in theoretical Physics such as multiverse's and the such have been discussed for millennia, sense and religion can go hand in hand, it depends upon interpretation and which religion you choose to denigrate and in which way.

That would assume that we have some way of relaying our thoughts back to this 'something'... and if you say "Could be prayer?" I'm going to quit the internet. :D

That wouldn't assume any such thing.

It would assume that the Universe is a single entity and as everything, including Humanity, are made form the same stuff and that the entire Universe shares a single common ancestor it is not a huge assumption to make.

See, I agree in general. I just wouldn't use phrases like "that the entire Universe shares a single common ancestor". It's semantics really, I think we're on the same page generally. I assume that you are open to the possibility of a human envisioned 'God'?

I hate discussing this sort of thing though... it's not like we're ever going to find out the truth.

I never thought it would happen.

That's a good point but you have to remember that the real 'missing' scrolls are kept hidden for a good reason - because there's something written that would send shock waves through the very foundations of Christianity.
Can anyone guess what that might be?

The discovery that Jesus was a figment of everyone's imagination probably

Considering that the dead sea scrolls can be view digitally and copies can be found in many public accessible university libraries I find that kind of conspiracy theory as silly as you find the bible.

Do you remember how the turin shroud was supposed to be genuine until a carbon date proved it was a fake? It turned out to be a trick or treater many years onward who was pushed by a homeowner into his peat garden?

So you think that there are not any scrolls kept hidden do you and that it's just a conspiracy theory, there's plenty of evidence around on the net altho you would just spout your usual ' can you prove that' stock answer

Which just shows how misinformed and ignorant you are.
