Traffic Offenses: What happens after court?

Hi there,

I recently pleaded guilty by post to having crossed the hatchings between lanes on a sliproad (witness statement from a traffic officer on the hard shoulder). The court hearing was ~2 weeks ago. I'd included some fairly solid mitigating circumstances to hopefully reduce the punishment.

I have in the last couple of days received my driving license back, and a document with my "penalty" on it which was listed as a £45 fine and £15 administration fees. My driving license has had no points added to it, and is exactly how it was when i sent it off.

Am I right in thinking that since there has been no mention of points at all, and my driving license has been returned to me clean that I will have received none? The license was sent to the court with my plead, are they perhaps returning it to me and will then tell me to send it to the DVLA to have points added on?

I am surprised by the lack of actual explanation as to what has been decided, just an envelope with my driving license and a single form with a fine and instructions on how to pay it :s

Cheers

Tom.

the paperwork only lists an address for queries no phone numbers, and states all enquiries should be sent to the address. I thought i'd ask here first as writing and then posting and waiting for a response is a pita

If you know which court it was then just phone them directly.

the way the offense is worded in the highway code (for solid lines with hatchings "should not enter" is used, solid lines with chevrons "must not enter" and I was allowing a car that was merging from the left of me to join with having to brake sharply)

It's rg-tom, nothing is ever his fault on the road :p

lol Manchester Police are not normally too bad to be honest... I had a DD40 on my licence from North Wales Police... :(

No, you were crossing the solid white line so you could get to the outside lane to drive at a billion mph just that bit quicker, the other car just provided a convenient excuse and you know it :p

How many other people feel the need to cross solid white lines to let other people merge? :p

at this particular junction, lots. it's a really stupid design. At rush hour id say about 5 out of 10 people literally in the left lane cross over to the right over the hatchings

also if i was doing to drive at a billion mph i think id have a speeding ticket too :p

I'm banned for drink driving and I have no idea what code the offense is, whether I will have points afterwards and when I can actually drive again. I haven't been told a thing written or otherwise. Bit of a joke really but I'm worried about insuring my car falsely.

Is it really the court I should get in touch with, or the DVLA nearer the time?

Too many stray s's in this thread! offense?? license?? no. It does sound like you might have got away with it since when I had to go to court for speeding it was definitely the court that wrote it on my licence.

What exactly were you charged with? I.e. what was the exact offence you pleaded guilty to?

You might want to read the HC again, the "Should not enter" applies only to hatchings or chevrons bordered by a broken line. The HC is very clear on this.

Rule 109:

If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so.

• If the area is marked with diagonal stripes and bordered by solid white lines, you should not enter it except in an emergency.

• If the area is marked with chevrons and bordered by solid white lines you MUST NOT enter it except in an emergency.
