With the news that the Harrier was to be withdrawn in early 2011 and RAF Cottesmore to close I had to make a visit to my local airfield.

The weather forecasters were useless as usual and what should have been a sunny day was very overcast but the Harriers were busy. 15 different airframes were flown and at one point they have 9 up (including 6 taking off back to back).

Get them whilst you can, sad days.

A few more photos on my site... http://www.fast-air.co.uk/raf-cottesmore-2nd-nov-2010/

Yep going to be a pity that we'll have no more of these, but I understand the reasoning. Good news that we've ditched the limited F35B model too, sense seems to have prevailed for once.

Fantastic shots :)

Thanks!

F-35C is a better buy then the B but I'd still prefer to see either Super Hornets or even Rafales bought instead.

Meant to reply to this the other day but got called away. I love your pics, have seen a few of your posts and always thought they were great. Love your website as well, enjoyed browsing through your shots.

Id quite like to get some good photos of the Harriers for myself before they are taken out of service.

Gord - If you are ever thinking of going up again I'd like to tag along if possible? Do you still have my email address? In trust if not..

Thank you very much!

Any feedback on what you think of the site, improvements, good parts, bad parts are very welcome.

I very much want to get back over but getting the correct wind direction, good weather and fitting it in with work isn't easy at the moment.

I think I'll get back over late Nov or early Dec. If you are into Twitter then follow me as I tend to mention when I'm off somewhere in advance.

Awesome pics. Cottesmore is about half a mile from my house :)

Make the most of it!

Not on twitter myself gordon, just been on your page and see you (or someone with fastair) is in touch with Michael Hind.

Do you know him personally?

Lovely shots as always Gord. We never see many Harriers over here but will miss seeing the photos.

Really do love the Harrier - well the single seater version. The 2 seater just doesn't look as nice.

Thanks, I've always had a soft spot for it as well.

Personally no, just through FC and Twitter. Why do you ask?

I used to talk to him on MSN years back and met up with him and his dad at East Midlands a few times in the past. I recall the jealousy after he got himself a brand spanking EOS 300D!!!!

Ive joined this twitter now, after swearing blind I never would!!!! :p

I reckon Twitter is pretty good for photography and / or aviation stuff. I was very reluctant at first but now love it!

Indeed, twitter is very handy for keeping up to date with aviation stuff. a lot of very handy infomation and also a good way of spreading photo's about.
