DO I NEED A 6970.

Have to agree that buying a 470 now when there is a new generation of high-end AMD cards coming very soon is a terrible move.

Wait for reviews and pricing of 6950/6970 before you buy, as even if you don't get one their release may drive down prices of 470/480.

Thanks GJ02, you still holding out? Looking at all those reviews and gaming benchmarks made me realise i dont need the power or expense of the 6950\6970. Yeah the 470 may come down some more but I'm not really bothered about that.:)

oh yeh still holding out mate, ive even point blank decided im waiting until 6970 comes too, im not jumping on the 580 like a lot of people are.
good things come to those who wait, and god know ive waited long enough lol

What I cant understand is the 580 is around 15% faster than 480 and will be £400. That Gigabyte 470 SOC is just behind the 480 but the 580 costs 70% more. Go figure.:confused:

i know, and it still may come to that, well 2 of them
i just need to see what they are like ( new cards ) as i dont want to panic buy now and then regret it in 2 weeks time
6970 is looking to be a lot cheaper compared to 580, i think this is going to be a dark horse and surprise a lot of people, performance wise and cost.
 
Yeah, I think without doubt the 6970 will be cheaper, by quite a bit. But dont you think these companies are kidding us on a bit about what we need for gaming. When you look at what I said above it seems to me the difference in fps in your favourite game between the 470 SOC and the 580GTX wont be much and make little, if any, noticible impact. I just feel gpu manufacturers are kidding us on a bit by convincing us that we need the latest and greatest when in fact we dont.:)
