£500 budgit for a new PC but I'm struggling

It seem's we're argueing a lot today :p

the i5 is shown to outperform the 1055t anyway. As you kindly pointed out to me today, it even outperforms the i7 at stock speeds.

Also, if you get a h55 MB then their the same price builds. The only difference is they are probably not going to support multiple GPUs and won't support integrated graphics with the i5.

P55 boards are good but their not mandatory, just like it's not mandatory to spend £100 on a AM3 board even thou there are really good ones.

but why spend nearly £500 on a i5 spec with a rubbish motherboard without SATA and USB3.0 which the Gigabyte AM3 board I specced has.

when for £450 or less, the OP can have a system perfect for the OP needs, the ability to put a HEX core cpu in.

and even the future foreward upgrade ability of the AMD bulldozer cpu's that are due late next year on socket AM3+ and so the DDR3 ram and the Athlon II X4 CPU will work in a new AM3+ motherboard, so then all it will take is a Bulldozer CPU to keep them ahead of the Jones's.

This is only £5 more then the Gigabyte UD2H

For the sake of £5 the i5 is worth it.

You're talking about upgrading to a AM3+ motherboard later on. He's building this for his in laws, he doesn't want to be rebuilding the whole thing in 6 months for something that they probably won't even notice the difference. They want an i5 build let them have an i5 build, I wouldn't build my inlaws a shoe rack from ikea. :D

at least its more future proof:D

Now now you pair. You;re confusing the hell out of me! I thought i had my mind set too! :D

its simple i5 is a dead end, there is a new socket replacing the current gen out next year.

AM3 has future upgrade ability down the line.

And a range of Hex core cpu's that can easily be dropped in in a few years, for much better performance, and programs(especially media creation apps scale better on multiple cores) will only get more multi threaded, taking even more advantage of multi core cpu's.

I'm going with experience dealing with in laws. Just give them what they want or they'll never be happy. They won't know the difference anyway. Stulid has a very good point and I agree with him if you were buying the pc for yourself.

If you look at the graphs the difference in benchmarks is like 1 second.

Also, the Intel i5 is a quad with 4 virtual cores so you could tell them it's an 8 core and that would add massive bragging rights and the golf club.

no its not!!!

you dont even know you tech!!! lol..

only i7 chips have hyperthreading, and i3 and i6 have hyperthreading.

i5 750 and 760 are just quads, no virtual cores.

I give up, just get th Athlon :D

Just show your inlaws some benchmarks when they ask why you're giving them old technology. :D

(nothing intended, I agree with you Stulid)

old tech?, are you one of those people who always have to have the newest of the new?
sure the q6600 is old but it still performs great :p

What do you agree with? I'm not sure if you're just having banter or you actually have a point your making?
