I have just been offered an fps 1010 at a good price would it be better than my corsair 450 quility vs quantity

Thinking of upgrading the graphics card to a 470 as they are a good price atm and dont think the vx450 would cut it so how would the fps 1010 cope as i have seen it fail in some reviews but nvidia rate it to take 2 480s

Thoughts please

Had two FSP everest fail on me in a row. They were 700w models in the 88plus range. Bit-tech recently rated them pretty highly but I'm now not so keen. One failure you go meh, but the second being d.o.a. is maybe too much. Anyway they've promised me a 700w 80plus gold unit so maybe third time lucky.

Still FSP make a lot if OEM units for many branded supplies so they aren't all bad.

Thanks for the input guys and from what i see i think its worth giving it a go and will be changing it . When i have some money looks like i might be after a GTX 470

What kind of money are you talking here? A GTX 470 will need more juice than a VX 450W can provide, but 1010W certainly isn't required. Depending on the price you are looking to pay for this we will most likely be able to specify a better quality PSU that comes with a full warranty.

I've run a GTX275, ATI 4890 and at present ATI 5850 on a Corsair VX450, along with an i5 750 @4.1GHz, SSD, few HDDs, couple TV cards without any problems whatsoever...But in saying that I would be inclined to buy yourself a quality "named" PSU of between 500-600W for a 470...

I already have the fps 1010 and one psu has to go i do like my vx450 but think the gtx 470 (164 today plus delivery)would be a step to far for it. I know there are better quility psu s out there but it just happends to be the one i have got . i was just a bit worried about it failing and taking my system out

I wouldn't risk it really... wait, you was offered it and now you have it?
Maybe sell it and get a better brand 650w PSU?

surely it cant be that bad all it will have to power is core i7 860 and a gtx 470 i dont even have my dvd rom conected . Should be well within the limits of the psu
